Seriously looking at the PXW-X70 for my kit but was wondering if anyone in SVP community has any luck with importing / editing this camera's XAVC-long GOP /MXF wrapper file codec? This is different from the XAVC-Intra files (like F-5 / F-55).

Last time I looked the XAVC-long GOP wasn't playing nice with AVID, Premiere, Sony Vegas Pro and FCP. Same goes with Sony's Catalyst Prepare... it was vaporware last time I looked.

Anyone finding success with this camera & XAVC-long GOP?

Thanks.

Those are the worlds most used video editors. I would look at different cameras my self.

Thanks for your post. FWIW....I wrote to Sony asking about the XAVC-Long Gop / MXF issue and below is what they wrote back, indicating that the issue has been addressed.:

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

Yes, Vegas Pro 13 should be able to read XAVC-Long GOP files from the PXW-X70. You may see some conflicting information on this topic because the X70 previously had a problem with its firmware that caused XAVC-L files to record improperly, making them unusable in Vegas. This has since been resolved by a camera firmware update, which I strongly recommend you apply. Vegas Pro 13 has also received a recent update to allow it to read the problem files created by the X70 before its firmware update, so you should be covered on both fronts.

I recommend downloading the full-featured free trial of any software you’re interested in buying prior to making a purchasing decision. The free trial will allow you to evaluate the software for 15 days and ensure it meets your needs and runs on your system before you place an order.

Sincerely,

Vegas can now read files from those cameras newest firmware update,
But to play it safe, if you can turn your interest to another brand
camera would be an even better idea.

Chas, here's a reply from a user that I trust on the Sony Vegas forum shortly after the version 2.0 firmware announcement. Sounds like the camera's not ready for prime time yet :(

There is a visible difference between the 100 and 60Mbps on my AX100. Especially objects in motion look a lot better. Last year I filmed an eagle soaring and I can see that at 60Mbps the codec breaks apart.
