*.mov (from iphone) to *.SOMETHING (lossless)

Dear awesome CC-forum,

How can I best convert *.mov from iphone into a nice-to-work-with format in Vegas Pro 13? Or what do the professional people do when facing different formats (here *.mov).

I am working in Vegas Pro 13.
I have AVS video converter 9.1.

My current frustration:
I am putting together some *.mov clips in Vegas Pro 13.
It is apparently possible to import the files and use them normally BUT....

Then after 5 or so clips were imported and put on the timeline the program crashes hard... Does it continously work on converting or something.. anyway - super slow - and closing and reopening made it forget where the files were located.

I tried to reset and start all over. Same problem.

Kind Regards,
Søren

Soren,

I don't know the answer to your crash problem, but if you're in a pinch, a possible workaround might be to import those "five or so" clips at a time, then render them as something else out of Vegas. Then delete those, and do five more, same thing.

Professional people who work with mixed formats usually use a digital intermediary as a common editing format. For Mac editors that would be Apple ProRes 422. For PC editors there is no standard format. You might want to try the free GoPro Studio and convert the files to CineForm AVI files. You could also just convert each file individually to Sony MXF with Vegas Pro.

GoPro Studio won't open .mov files, but as John has Stated in similar threads, Just downloading it will give you the Cineform codec and you can use Vegas to create your Cineform digital intermediary files. Go to render as and select AVI with the closest resolution as your files. Then click Customize and in the Video format drop down, select Cineform codec. also you can change the resolution and frame rate as well.
