Maintaining the Original Video Settings When Rendering
on Jul 17, 2015 at 4:51:52 pm

Hello, everybody,

I make montages with quite the variety of basketball game recordings. Their quality and the codecs behind them may differ from another as some of them are obtained from VHS tapes, some are in bad quality, etc. Per example, the frame of 512 x 384 in MPEG4 is a frequent occurrence. The objective I usually want to execute is to maintain the same quality as the source originally had.

What should I look for when trying to do so in Sony Vegas? Per example, the montage would consist of 20 clips cut out of the same source. Is there something you can point at and call important? Is there a flexible format in which you can freely render? Or is such a general question unanswerable and begs more specifics?

The Match Media Settings option tends not to help me at all as the format of the source doesn't match any of the offered output formats. Rendering in some of the formats produces glitchy results. WMV seems like a great choice on which I can rely on, however, I would like to have an intelligent response about this as I'm not all that knowledgeable and would like to know what's the thing to look for.

Thanks!

The render templates in Vegas Pro are designed to produce industry standard formats. Since you are editing non-standard formats there is nothing to look for because you're not going to find anything that matches. You simply have to create custom templates for your custom formats. I would try and render back to the same format as the source. In other words, if your source is MP4 render to MP4. If your source is WMV render to WMV. That's about the best advice I can give if you want to keep them in these non-standard formats.

Thanks for the lengthy response!

You've always been a great help to me on this board.

Will try to do so.
