Problem with an introduction for my video
on May 25, 2015 at 3:25:51 pm

Hello there, I am a You tuber that has just recorded my first video. Its all edited up to a high standard but when i go to put my intro in (using sony Vegas pro 13) it gives me the error 'File C:\Users\Mr Jake\Desktop\Intro.avi could not be opened.' Why would this be? I have looked online and cant seem to find a similar problem. If anybody can fix this problem for it would be most appreciated.

How are you trying to put this file into your project? Are you using "File -> Import -> Media", "File -> Open", or some other command in Vegas?

I'm doing it with File > Import > Media > Intro

What did you use to convert the Intro, and what was changed by your conversion? What file format did you convert it to?

If we just forget the conversion because the problem occurred before it was converted. When i was sent the file it was an mp4, after trying to input it it came up with the error i posted earlier.

I noticed dvdvideosoft in the comment line. My success in importing videos that utility produces ranges from slim to none :(
You said that you got it from someone. If at all possible, have them send you the original file and not a converted one.

I like MXF (as does Vegas) but without knowing any more details, it's hard to pick one over another.
What format is the original video?

Vegas "should" be able to open an mp4 file.
What version of QuickTime player do you have installed on your computer?
Can you have the file sent to you in a different format such as MXF?

Im not sure what version of quick time I have installed. I can ask to have the file sent as an MFX

[Jake Loggie] "Im not sure what version of quick time I have installed."

Launch QT player and go "Help - About QuickTime Player".

"I can ask to have the file sent as an MFX"

Probably your best option as MXF files work very well in Vegas.
Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!!

Lesson learnt here:-

**** We need to manage our expectations with Vegas in that we can't assume that getting Media from a 3rd Party will conform correctly allowing Vegas to play *****

Hence my original question and the clear pathway that Mike showed.
