Hello Everyone:

Does anyone know if closed captioning can be done in Vegas 12? I was wondering what the picture below meant.

Many thanks,

Debbie

Yes it can.
And a most helpful aid to this is VASST Caption Assistant plugin.

Yes. The help file gives instructions on how to do this.

Basically you just move you cursor where you want the CC, and hit C. Then change the command to CC. Enter the CC you want to appear.

You can use edit details window to see your list of CC, or make faster changes.

You could also try uploading your file to youtube, using the auto discovered CC, correct that CC, then download the CC file to include in your project.

Some codecs like xdcam support embedded cc, while others you need to use a separate CC text file.

Thank you Steve and Aaron:

Steve: I don't have the funds to do this right now, although I would probably have to get the funds later to have someone else do it, since it's a requirement. Has anyone heard of Rev - Video Captions Service? https://www.rev.com/caption?gclid=CNaW_6m5wsUCFdgKgQodikUAww They charge $1 per minute for all caption projects.

Aaron, are the instructions you gave for the plugin or is this directly through Vegas Pro 12?

Many thanks,

Debbie

Hi Everyone:

I tried to do a few lines in Vegas of Closed Caption, but I cannot see what I've typed to know how it looks and where the text is placed. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Many thanks,

Debbie

Everyone:

I found where I can view the closed captions. I click Preview icon and select overlay. I haven't done it yet, but I just found it through the help menu.

Best,

Debbie

Hello Everyone:

Does anyone know if you can position closed caption in various places on the screen? My closed caption, in a few places, is blocking the text on the screen that's accompanying the voiceover.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Debbie

Yes, it's possible. You have to edit captioning markup.
For example, {RCL}{ENM}{R03In08Wh}{TabOff3}Woof woof{EDM}{EOC}

More information in the help...

I have seen Rev's work. And if you're concerned about meeting the FCC guidelines, I would be careful. These services (there are others out there like it) do not support moving captions to avoid graphics, they do not support sound effects, and the caption files are not QC'd.

That said, if you're willing to work on the completed file yourself, it might be a cost-effective option.
