Can Vegas Pro 13 work with Long G50 MXF files shot from a Panasonic AJ-PX270?
on Mar 20, 2015 at 6:04:29 am

Hello All!

I just bought a new Panasonic AJ-PX270 camera. The more reading I'm doing the worse I'm feeling. I cannot import my long G50 .MXF files into Vegas Pro 12 or Vegas Pro 13 the trial version. Am I missing something here or must I convert these files ? I really don't want to convert files anymore. And since I just purchased the camera today, is this not a good codec for Sony Vegas? Thinking I may have made a bad mistake as a dedicated Sony Vegas user. Is there any hope?

Thank you!!

[Shawn Bossick] "I cannot import my long G50 .MXF files into Vegas Pro 12 or Vegas Pro 13 the trial version."
These are the native video formats that Vegas Pro supports:
  • DSLR (.mov) files
  • DV/HDV/AVCHD/NXCAM
  • H.264 AVC/AAC MP4
  • HDCAM SR
  • MPEG-1, -2, and -4 import and encoding
  • MVC and MPO 3D
  • Panasonic P2
  • RED™ (.r3d) file ingest
  • Windows Media® 11
  • 4K XAVC
  • 4K XAVC S
  • XDCAM Optical
  • XDCAM EX
  • BMP, JPG, PNG, TIFF, and WDP image sequences
  • OpenEXR and DPX image sequences
I don't see AVC-LongG50 in that list. You might want to try shooting AVC-Intra and see if that works. Otherwise you may need to change cameras or NLE's.

Hello John!

Thank you for the response, and the list. I see Panasonic P2 & that's what camera I bought a(Panasonic AJ-PX270) Which is a P2 camera. It also shoots with micro P2. It can also shoot with SD cards, which I thought would be great since that's all I own. I did not know it was possible for only some of a camera's formats to be supported & others not? I did not want to shoot in AVC Intra 100 as it takes up too much space for my needs. Live a learn though.

I returned the camera today, bummer. I've owned 2 previous Panasonic camera's, I just assumed this too would work. Been using Vegas since 4.0 I believe, don't plan on switching.

Thank you John & everyone who responded, you guys are awesome!

Shawn.

Yea, I think the words "Panasonic P2" are meaningless now. When it first was introduced Vegas didn't support it. Eventually Vegas added support, but P2 is so many formats now that it's not a term that tells you anything anymore.

The problem today is that there are too many formats and Sony adds support for their cameras first (can you blame them?) so if you are going to use Sony software, I would but a Sony camera.
