Preserve audio pitch when changing timeline playback rate
on Mar 6, 2015 at 9:33:53 pm

Hi folks!

I've got a huge amount of video to go thru and trim, and can do it much more efficiently if I increase the main playback rate of the project (using the Rate slider). This changes the audio pitch as well, which is to be expected. However, I would like to preserve the pitch when the playback speeds up.

Other workstations do this easily. (I come from the DAW arena; REAPER has a right-click option for this, for example.) I can't figure out how to do this easily in Vegas, however. I tried using a pitch-correction plugin on the audio track, but it doesn't function when the project is playing at anything other than 1x speed.

Is this possible in Vegas? Please note that I am not talking about stretching the playback speed of individual clips; I would like to do this with the main Playback Rate of the project!

Hold down the CTRL key and Scrub using the Cursor Playhead. Go to the Prefeences Menu and check this option is activated. The audio wont sound like the Chipmonks!

The quick reply is much appreciated. This just enables mouse control of scrubbing, however; I'm still getting pitch shifting. Is there an option that I've missed which will preserve pitch?

Mouse Scrubbing yes.

Hmm, you shouldn't be? - I'm not. Are you grabbing the Cursor PlayHead?

[Graham Bernard] "Are you grabbing the Cursor PlayHead?"

I assume so: hover over playhead cursor, hold CTRL, drag to the right. Just like this, yes?

The Chipmunks are going to haunt my dreams...

Ah yes, OK, I see now. That will indeed preserve pitch. But that's drag functionality, not regular playback functionality. I would like to be able to hit spacebar and have the video play back at some speed other than 1x, with the pitch maintained.

Youtube even has a playback rate change that preserves pitch...
