MPEG 2 Wont render in 16:9, but will in 4:3

Hi there,

I'm rendering my showreel that's 5 minutes long so that I can put it onto a DVD (Using Architect Pro 6.0). The problem that I've ran into is that using a modified version of the 'DVD Best' preset, Vegas crashes at the start of the render, a few frames after imported video starts playing (as opposed to generated media).

The render settings that I'm using are

Output Type: DVD
Width: 720x480
FR: 29.970 (Advised for a project shot in 24 frames, perhaps someone could explain why)
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Field Order: Progressive Scan
Highest video quality
Bitrate: Constant. 9,800,000
Format: PAL

The render works unhindered when the aspect ratio is set to 4:3, but crashes vegas as soon as it hits imported video when in 16:9... Sorry if I've missed out crucial information (I probably have), first time posting here

Thanks in advance!

There are multiple thing wrong with that template. Your bit rate is far too high, your format is set to PAL yet your frame rate is NTSC, your field order is progressive but DVD's are interlaced, you frame size is NTSC but again your format is PAL and you're taking about 24p so I have no clue what you are trying to accomplish.

Why don't you select an existing DVD Architect template and not modify it and see if that works. There are 3 DVD Architect template to choose from: (1) Widescreen NTSC, (2) Widescreen PAL and (3) Widescreen 24p; Pick the one that matches your footage and don't change anything and see if that works.

Thanks for the reply John, I tried all different combinations of framerate, and put them all into a PAL format, however the problem recurs. Even in the default widescreen template it wont render because it's in 16:9.

Are there any other output types that are suitable for burning onto DVD?

Edit: I've decided to just render it as an AVI file and run it through the Adobe Media Encoder, as I'm sure it's a bug.

Did you try using one of the DVD Architect templates without changing it? Those should work without any problems.
