Particle Illusion Problem
on Feb 25, 2015 at 6:16:51 am

There are some emitters like fire with smoke, it doesn't matter what I do it always looks crap when I import it to Vegas, smoke looks really dark and like a solid spot and not like smoke with soft edges that blend with the background image or video.
I'm "save output" PNG file, save alpha and remove black bg.
While playing on a background image, it looks perfect but when I import it to Vegas(without that background) and put over the same background it looks the way I explained above.
How to fix that?
Thanks.

I save to AVI. That works for me. Why PNG?

Because I want no background and everybody I know who works with PI told me PNG would give me the best results, are they wrong?
BTW when I try to save to AVI like you, that output options box doesn't let me change anything, all settings are locked, is there a way to unlock them?

Are they wrong? - I wouldn't say that, but you end up with a collection of stills. I couldn't work like that. From your "response", it would appear you aren't aware that PNG isn't the only Render-out option that keeps the ALPHA channel?

And to quality, I'm getting 1920x1080.

Read my reply again = "BTW when I try to save to AVI like you, that output options box doesn't let me change anything, all settings are locked, is there a way to unlock them?"

If I try to save to AVI, I can't check save alpha channel box or any other box, they're all locked.

As AVI render settings are locked, I tried something different,as I couldn't choose save alpha channel, I exported with black background and in Vegas I changed channel composite mode to screen, it worked.
Why the hell AVI output settings are locked?

[Joao Souza] "Why the hell AVI output settings are locked?"
You need an AVI CODEC option that WILL support ALPHA and then render the ALPHA Channel.

Please tell me one.
I installed Lagarith but even when choosing it still avi options are locked.
I installed Huffyuv too but still settings are locked, choosing codec is a screen after AVI output settings so it's locked before I choose any codec so I can't go to the second screen and choose a codec then return to the output options and see if settings are unlocked.
Weird LOL

What software are you using to separate the smoke from the background? My suspicion is that your separation is not as good as you think it is. The imperfections are hidden by the black background. You are probably seeing the true selection in Vegas. It probably does not look as good because the original black background is no longer present.

What software?
I don't understand your question, I create smoke with PI then open it in Vegas.

What did you set the Alpha Channel to on the Event on the Timeline? If you used Straight (unmated), try Pre-multiplied (Black).

Looks like crap the same way.
I gotta find out why when I try to save to AVI, I can't select save alpha, why are all settings locked?
I just find out if I try to import an avi video,PI crashes................always.

Hmmm...

Here are all my AVI options and therefore my Settings for AVI are live:-

You have NO live AVI options?

My PI is different than yours(mine is 3.0), that save output box has only settings for file output, codec options are in the second box, only with avi options are locked, I can't check save alpha channel box.
Here1s save output box, all settings are blocked, I click ok then a second box let me choose a codec but still I couldn't check save alpha box.

[Joao Souza] "I can't check save alpha channel box."
I just ignore that and click OK. Then I get the CODEC stuff.

My PI is 3.09.

If you're asking, then my best guess would be that you need to go to the next Screen select the AVI that allows for ALPHA, which works for me, and then, as I've experienced, click the save ALPHA.

I already said more than 3 times that options are locked no matter whatever codec I choose.
Codecs are in the second box so once I chose a codec, I can't return to the 1st box.

A friend of mine jus brought me PI 3.04.
It looks like yours and.................when I click RENDER it says = Could not find an acceptable pixel format!
What the hell does that mean?
LOL

Do you think you need to reinstall Particle Illusion? Sounds like parts of the program aren't aware of what you've installed. Have you got the latest version to install?

What do you think?

I found the problem, when I click render it asks if stage should be 100%, I have to set NO then it works.
Graham thanks for your patience ;)

Good! - At least we had an opportunity to establish as many of the parameters that are present in pI!
