Creating enlarged text effect over blurred-over email
on Feb 8, 2015 at 1:53:22 pm

Hi,
I need to be able to enlarge certain pieces of on-screen text (like in an email) while the rest of the email text is somewhat faded out.

I've seen this done professional, e.g. in newcasts when they review a document. Any tips?

I'm pretty sure I can do this with masking but I'm curious if there's somebody that has gone through this process already and can save me some experimentation.
Thanks,
Adjul

Place the same media event on two tracks. Blur the bottom event while masking the top even. Use Pan/Crop to enlarge the top event as well. That should give you want you want. You can even keyframe this so that it transitions over time.

Here's an alternative solution, giving emphasis - not enlarging - to the TARGET text using the one Event:

Graham, so are you emphasizing the targeted text with contrast, blur, etc. Or are you de-emphasizing the background text? I'm assuming the latter.

thanks for the suggestion

[Marcus Gardner] " I'm assuming the latter."

Correct.

Scrutinize my Mask settings and you'll clearly see they are set to NEGATIVE. This means that everything OUTSIDE the mask is being affected, and in turn that MEANS that it is the exo-MASK Text - there is no BACKGROUND Text. There are no additional Tracks to form a Background. It is ALL done in just one Event. This is a great feature in Vegas!

More to the point, Marcus, and you haven't said so, is this the result you wanted?

Cheers

You might want to explain that this was introduced rather recently so it's a feature of Vegas Pro 13.0 & 12.0 but it's not available in 11.0 and below. This is a property of the Mask feature which allows it to be Applied to FX. Very nice indeed.
