Convert 1080p to 1080i?
on Feb 3, 2015 at 1:51:55 am

Hi! I have just finished a project with my friends. There is a requirement that the video be 1080i - 29.97 fps. I have got everything but the interlace... sorry if this is a very simple question. I just want it to be perfect!

Looking at the video with "MediaInfo" it says the video is Progressive, is there a way to easily make it interlaced?

Thanks!

You need to render to an interlaced format. What format is required?

The required format is .mov, 1080i @ 23.97 fps. I have tried rendering using both upper and lower field, they still return as progressive in mediainfo though. Thanks for the reply!

Sorry if I wasn't clear. What codec are they expecting you to use. MOV is not a format, it's just the QuickTime container. In that container you can places lots of different codecs. What codec are they looking for you to use? ProRes? HDV? ACVHD? AVC/H.264?

Apparently MOV is only one of the accepted formats and the worst one for Vegas Pro. They also accept MPEG2 and MPEG4. You could use MainConcept MPEG2 with the HDV 1080-60i template to make a 25Mbit .m2t file which it looks like they accept.

Thank you for the information!

I remembered now why it had to be .mov, that was the only one in which we could get captions to work. I think now I should not use Sony Vegas, I think if I took the .mov with captions and converted it with Sony Vegas into the format you mentioned above the caption data wouldn't make it.

Thank you for the help though! This will be very useful for me in the future!
