Repeated Flickering in Rendered Files

Hi Everyone:

I checked to see if there were earlier posts regarding flickering, and I only saw some that mention flickering in the preview. In my case, my preview is perfect. I am experiencing flickering in my rendered file and can't understand it. It happens in random spots and it never repeats in the same place when I re-render. I only happens in one or two places and everything else plays well.

Has this ever happen to anyone? If so, what has been your remedy?

Many thanks,

Debbie

PS: My file is 1920 x 1080 23.976. I have rendered for blu ray using these following settings:

1920 x 1080 AVC and MPEG2 at different renders. Audio both PCM and AC3. This time I rendered 1440 x 1080 with AC3. Both times I have had flickering in select clips.

Try turning off GPU Acceleration under Options | Preferences | Video. Sometimes a bad GPU driver can cause problems like flickering & misplaces frames.

Hi John:

I just checked it and the GPU Acceleration was off. I will turn off my automatic updates, the internet and sleeping mode on my computer. I am testing to see if that is attributed as well.

Many thanks,

Debbie

If it wasn't caused by the GPU then it's really a mystery. Can you upload a sort section of it (just a few seconds) so we can see what it might be?

Hi Jon:

I am rerendering, and gave it the same file name. It is overwriting the file currently. I'm burning directly to Blu Ray. Not only did I experience flickering.; some of the music was not rendered. I turned off my Internet from my laptop and all automatic updates, as well as sleep mode on my computer to see if that is what caused my issues.

Many thanks,

Debbie

If its not the GPU could it be you are running out of resources on your laptop? How much memory do you have? What version of Vegas Pro are you using? 64-bit or 32-bit?

I've had the same problem with flickering/lost frames during rendering... ONLY with GPU acceleration turned on. I solved it by upgrading to a different card but John is right. In the meantime you can turn GPU acceleration off and you should have a good render.

Is this a persistent flickering or is there just one black frame inserted here and there in your render, always changing spots? I described that issue in a previous post, it's something I've always had with each version of Vegas 13 that I only solve by pasting my timeline into Vegas 11 and rendering. It most often happens when I've added any kind of rotation to a frame, so that if I remove it sometimes it renders that part fine but black frames pop up somewhere else. Also has happened when doing chroma keying where it'll only put the black frame on the background and not the subject in front of it. Very weird but you're certainly not the first to get this issue. If you find a magic fix let us know.

[Debbie King] " I am experiencing flickering in my rendered file and can't understand it. It happens in random spots and it never repeats in the same place when I re-render"

Debbie, are you rendering using a constant bit rate (CBR)? I have experienced a flickering/skipping issue in Vegas. The sound remains in sync, but every now and then the image skips. If you are using CBR, you could try VBR instead, and if you project is too large, use Mark's bit rate calculator to work out the optimal render settings.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
