John:
Thank you so much for the great page about the Avid template for Vegas. It is great info and must have been a lot of work! I am using Vegas Pro 12 and am trying to render a QuickTime movie file (it is HD) I have imported as a QuickTime movie file because it contains closed captions and I was told not to change the file format or the CC's would be lost. I think your page will give me all the info I need except after following the initial instructions to download the Avid codec and install it, and then opening Vegas, and selecting render as QuickTime 7, the "customize template" button will not highlight and work. I have QT 7.7.3 installed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I hope you are enjoying a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks,
Jim Forward

[Jim Forward] "I was told not to change the file format or the CC's would be lost."
I'm afraid the Closed Captioning will be lost anyway. #1 because Vegas Pro will not see the closed captions in the file you imported and #2 Vegas Pro doesn't support writing close captions to a QuickTime file so even if you could import them, Vegas Pro can't write them.

What version of Vegas Pro do you have? It should be enabled once you highlight a template.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too. (I'm stuffed already) ;-)

Thank you John! Is there any way you know of to use a HD QuickTime file with CC's in Vegas Pro 12 (the version I have)and render it with the CC's to a data disc for a TV station?
By the way, I just discovered the only templates that will let me use the "customize" button are the ones under the Main Concept section, which is what I have been using up to now. This is the first QT file I've tried to work with, and it was sent because it contains the CC's.
Thanks once more for your time sir!
Jim

Nope. As far as I know, you need a Mac to do that. Closed captioning is usually added to QuickTime movies using Apple Compressor (which only runs on a Mac). I guess you could buy a 3rd party PC program to do this but you can't do it with Vegas Pro. As I said, Vegas Pro will not add Closed Captions to QuickTime files.

You're welcome. Sorry it didn't solve your problem.
