Here's the MediaInfo for the files, I've installed and Un-installed a million Codecs. I had this issue minus the crashing on Import some years ago with an older version of Vegas, but I fixed it, and now after re-formatting and upgrading to Windows 8.1 the issue arises once more.

[Ryan Miller] "I've installed and Un-installed a million Codecs."
That alone has probably done more damage to your computer than anything else. Do you understand how to use the information you got from MediaInfo? All you should be doing is checking that you have the one codec that is listed in that file. It looks like the codec is Logarith and I'm betting that you are using the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1 and you don't have the 64-bit version of Lagarith installed (the 32-bit version won't work with the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro).

Alright I understand how terrible the Codec Packs are for you, but I'm a fresh install and was more worried about figuring out the problem. K-Lite Codec Pack, Xvid, BDMPEG, AVI Codec Pack Pro v2.4.0, divxh264decoder, ffdshow, and another Xvid. Those are all the bad boys I un-installed after installing, now you're a smart dude, I feel a little bad for being an idiot but I apologize. I've also installed Lagarith using the automatic and manual methods, (x64) and all. Still doesn't import and crashes when importing. Well it freezes and I kill the process.

I'm not seeing this problem. I just created a new Windows 7 64-bit virtual machine, install Vegas Pro 13.0 and Logarith 1.3.27 and I was able to render to Logarith and drop that Lagarith file on the Vegas Pro 13.0 timeline and it played back flawlessly. I can only assume that all of the codec pack installs have corrupted your system somehow and since it's a "fresh install" I would recommend that you re-install Windows and NOT install any codec packs and try just Vegas Pro 13.0 and Lagarith to see what you get.

Could the fact I'm on Windows 8.1 be an issue?

It shouldn't be. I can test it out tonight when I get home. I don't have a Windows 8.1 VM with me on my laptop but I do have one on my desktop at home.

I just tried it and Lagarith works great with Windows 8.1 and Vegas Pro 13.0 so something is wrong with your system. Probably the codec packs which never uninstall cleanly.

Is there a way to check what version of Lagarith my PC's trying to use? I feel like it may have installed the x32 version automatically first, and when I manually re-installed the x64 version it created issues. I'm honestly trying to avoid re-installing all my software for the second time this week but if I have to I will. I just refuse to use a converter as gameplay files can get pretty hefty, and fixing Codecs will save me hundreds of hours in conversion time later.

I don't know how you could check. Vegas Pro 13.0 will not see the 32-bit version anyway. You can always uninstall Lagarith and re-install it. It might help to re-install Vegas Pro as well to help it re-establish all of it's codecs.

Uninstalled Vegas, uninstalled Lagarith, installed x64 Lagarith, installed Vegas. Still no luck sadly.

This is the reason that everyone warns people to avoid codec packs. They never uninstall cleanly and they really mess up your computer. They are designed for people who want to be able to watch anything so they load up your computer with all sorts of free codecs. Unfortunately for a video editor, these free codecs often overlay the high quality codecs that you paid good money for and now your video editing program is using a codec that is suboptimal or even worse, broken. I've seen this happen again and again to people.

Take that as there's no way to fully remove the codecs?

Nope. That's why we tell people not to install them.

Just spent the day reformatting again, no codec packs, just my programs (Photoshop, Google Chrome, Steam) and Lagarith, still Windows 8.1 x64, SV 13 still crashes when importing the files.

OK, since I already rendered a Logarith file and worked for me, can you post one of your files and I'll try it on my computer? If the file is too big to upload to the COW you can sign up for DropBox and post a link. They give you 5TB to start with and if you use that link with you and I will get an extra 500GB for free. ;-)

I've used Dropbox before and I don't care for the interface, at least what it used to be. I uploaded the Clip (2.45GB) to Mega but I did in-fact still sign up using the link you provided, hopefully the 500GB works wonders.

I downloaded the file and dropped it onto the Vegas Pro 13.0 timeline on my Windows 7 64-bit computer and it played back just fine. Looked like slow motion game play at 60fps. So there is nothing wrong with your files.

I have a Windows 8.1 vm that I can try and see if it's a Windows 8.1 problem. If not, perhaps it's a hardware problem on your end like a graphics card driver?

Once again, Windows 7 64-bit and Vegas Pro 13.0 worked fine. I do have the latest Vegas Pro 13.0 Build 428 installed. Try updating to the latest Vegas Pro 13.0 Build 428.

I'm using a Gigabyte 780Ti, drivers worked perfectly fine with it on Windows 7. It is in-fact 60FPS gameplay slowed down, just grabbed a random clip. Also am on the latest build. http://i.imgur.com/53jnxkQ.png

Windows 8.1, x64, I used this link for the lagarith installation. http://lags.leetcode.net/LagarithSetup_1327.exe

If you could find out if it's due to 8.1 via a VM install I'd greatly appreciate it.

I tested in on Windows 8.1 and it works for me. So Vegas Pro 13.0 doesn't have any problem playing that file for me on Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Make sure you are using the latest updated for Vegas Pro 13.0. Also check your graphics drivers to make sure they are current.

Although I do now seem to suffer from jarring lag/choppiness in video preview window, same HDD and settings as when I was running on Windows 7.

Do your project properties match the media properties? That will cause a lag if they are mismatched.

I'm using the same exact project and render settings I was previously. - http://imgur.com/a/47K5N (disregard color correction images at the end)

The files are 60FPS 1440x900 but changing the project settings to that doesn't help.

Did you try and have Vegas Pro change the project settings using the Match Media button in the Project Propertie window?

Also, what is your preview quality set to? Preview (Auto) will give you the best playback speed with good quality for making edit decisions.

That didn't help, renders and everything are fine though I discovered last night. But the playback lag makes editing difficult especially for fast-paced scenes where Audio needs to be sync'd. My playback is Preview (Auto), and Vegas isn't having any memory leak issues nor is it using up a lot of resources. Vegas 13 seems to actually be the most well optimized Vegas I've used since 07', even the renders were pretty quick with it.

The footage plays back at full frame rates and I've never seen Logarith not play back at full frame rates. Logarith files are bigger. Could your hard drives be the bottleneck?

Unless something's changed since older versions of Vegas I wouldn't think so, I've never ran into this problem in the past years. Vegas is installed on my C: though, is there any settings to change which HDD it uses, or shall I just try installing Vegas on my other drives?

It doesn't matter what drive the software is installed on. It's all in memory when you run it. C: is the best place for it.

You said you had your project match the video but in your screen shots they don't. Your screen shots show a project of 29.97 fps but the video is 60.0 fps. Have you tried setting your project to 60 fps?

Also your screen shots shot that your project is interlaced but your deinterlace method is set to none. This is also incorrect unless you are suing a 3rd party deinterlacer.

What are your hardware specifications? Are they enough to play Lagarith smoothly?

Those computer specs should be fine for processing Logarith. I'm really out of ideas as to why it's not running smoothly. As I said, it plays smoothly for me on my MacBook Pro in a Windows virtual machine. It should be smooth on "real" hardware (not virtualized).

I tried recording with the software "Fraps" and the video player was smooth, but I can't use it as a recording alternative due to the worse performance my PC suffers from it causing games not to play at 60FPS. I assume it'd be an issue with Lagarith, or the lack of another codec to be paired with that. Possibly an audio codec?
