Import clips from PMW 200 into Vegas 12

Hi everybody,

I've recently bought a couple of Sony PBMW 200. Today was out test filming for the first time. I put some 50MBs footage onto SxS card, and when I came back to the edit no problem connected by USB to the camera and the PC saw it as an additional drive and I was able to take the MXF files off in one chunk drop them into a folder on the computer. I also took some 35 MBS footage which I took on A SXS adapter with a 32 gig high-speed SD card. When I've access the camera in the same way via USB this time each individual clip is inside a folder. Obviously I don't want them like this into Vegas, so I used XD browser hoping that would bring them into Vegas a different way and take the files out of the folders. It hasn't. Any advice greatly appreciated. Martin

[Martin Phillips] " came back to the edit no problem connected by USB to the camera and the PC saw it as an additional drive and I was able to take the MXF files off in one chunk drop them into a folder on the computer."
That is not the proper procedure. You should be using either the XDCAM Browser or Device Explorer. This will ensure that long scenes get stitched together properly. Otherwise you might have audio gaps between files that were split because of the camera cards format.

I'm not sure if that camera should be using the XDCAM Browser or the Device Explorer since it's NXCAM. Try the Device Explorer and see if that brings the footage in correctly.

I'm sorry I don't understand the question. It may just be that I'm not familiar with NXCAM cameras. What did you mean by "numbers MXF files"?

Hi,
the PMW200 is in the XDCAM family.

I too don't understand the question about "numbers". My closest guess would be something to do with the naming scheme for clips. By default this is nnn_nnnn where the first three numbers are from the serial number of the camera and the last digits increments sequentially. Is that the question?

Hi John & Mark,

Thank you for responding, sorry its taken me a while to get back to you.

It appears I sent that post without reading it through properaly - so sorry - this is what it should say:

Just one last question then - when I do import the files via XD Browser for use in Vegas 12pro, is it best to import the files as 'MXF for NLE' files?

Regards Martin

Martin, I use a JVC-HM750 that records in that format to SDHC cards and that's the option I always choose for long clips. If they're short ones, I just copy the MP4 files directly into Vegas.
