Sony Vegas Pro 13: Lag, Freezing, Frame-Skipping

So I recently built a PC for editing videos. I used an Intel Core i7-3770k, and 8GB of RAM. However, whenever previewing my videos, they either freeze, skip frames(a lot), or just simply crash Sony Vegas. I go into Task Manager to look at my CPU Usage during one of these freezes, and my CPU Usage goes up to about 97%. Is this my computer or just possibly the most unstable editing software? Please, if anyone has any solutions to this, please help me(pre-rendering doesn't work at all). Thank you.

Possibly you have your preview settings too high. I leave mine set to Preview (Auto).

That's a good thing to check. Preview (Auto) will trade off between frame rate and quality as needed.

Also check that your project properties match your source footage properties. This will ensure the smoothest timeline playback.

Finally, what format is your video? (i.e., what codec does it use?) It could be using a codec that Vegas Pro doesn't handle well.

The video was recorded in an .avi codec.

[Greg Ramirez] "The video was recorded in an .avi codec."
AVI is not a codec, it's a container that can hold any codec. Use a tool like MediaInfo to determine what codec the video uses.

I set it to Preview (Auto), a little bit more of a performance boost. Thank you.
