720x480 video for Hulu Advertisement - Requires 4:3 or 16:9 pixel aspect ratio

Hi,

I'm working on a video for a Hulu video advertisement and the specs are listed here: http://www.hulu.com/advertising/ad-product/video/15-or-30-video-commercial.

The video needs to be 720x480 with a 4:3 or 16:9 video aspect ratio. I'm confused as to how a video with a resolution of 720x480 (3:2 aspect ratio) can have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. I can't get my head around the concept. I need to render the video in Sony Vegas.

Could anyone explain? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That's because 720x480 video doesn't use square pixels so it is NEVER 720 pixels by 480 pixels. The valid NTSC Pixel Aspect Ratio is 0.9 for 4:3 and 1.2 for 16:9. If you do the math you'll see that 720 x 0.9 = 648x480 square pixels (4:3) and 720 x 1.2 = 864x480 square pixels (16:9).
