Sony Vegas Performing TERRIBLY on MacBook Pro

Hey all,

I'm running Sony Vegas Pro 13 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) with 8GB of RAM and 2.9GHz i7 processor via BootCamp.

I'm trying to edit a 1080p video at 30fps and Vegas is performing absolutely terribly. The video preview is lagging and only showing a new frame every 15 seconds or so. I used to run Sony Vegas on my last two laptops before my MacBook and they ran SO smoothly compared to my MacBook that has much higher specs. I've looked up on how to improve the performance of Vegas, and nothing has improved it.

I'm working on a video with a deadline and I can't figure out why Vegas is giving me so much trouble. Please help!!

"I used to run Sony Vegas on my last two laptops"
Which version of Vegas was that?

[Bradley Greenwell] "I'm trying to edit a 1080p video at 30fps and Vegas is performing absolutely terribly. "
That doesn't tell us much.
  • What codec does the video use?
  • What's the bit rate?
  • Is is really 30fps or is it 29.97 fps?
  • Have you matched your project settings to your media settings?
  • What video drivers are you using?
I can edit HD 1080p MPEG-2 50MBPS (CBR) video at 29.97 fps (Sony MXF) on my 15-inch Mid-2012, 2.3 GHz Core i7, 16GB, 1TB SSD. MacBook Pro using VMware Fusion in a window on my Mac desktop and I get full frame rate 29.97 fps playback without any problems. So I can assure you that your MacBook Pro is more than capable of running Vegas Pro using Bootcamp which uses native hardware instead of my slower virtualization.

If you want to post a small source video, maybe via DropBox, I'd be happy to test it on my Mac for you.
