Burnt-in timecode (BITC) generator effect (that simulates pro VTR)?
on Jul 31, 2014 at 5:52:42 am

Hi all,

I'm aware that Sony Vegas can apply timecode to events via a built-in effect, but I'm after burnt-in timecode with the appearance of a professional VTR's timecode display, i.e.

I know at least Final Cut has a labeling feature but I'm using Windows. Thanks in advance,

Hi Graham,

That would be what I need, probably with a filled black box and
some font customization, would this be done through scripting?
Thanks,

RickAVC

1] Not a Script.

2] I can make font changes to everything EXCEPT the T/C. The T/C FX is set. However, the T/C can be widened or squashed.

3] Where do you want the BLACK BOX?

One CAN change the SIZE of the T/C font, but not the STYLE.

Placing the black box just under the text would be fine,
as in this sample: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnt-in_timecode)

I actually have Adobe Media Encoder installed and realized it can burn in timecode, but I
couldn't get it to run (I have After Effects activated but Encoder says it's not activated).
Thanks,

RickAVC

Vegasaur has TextGen that can do it (Timecode counter with custom BEFORE/AFTER text). Font, size, position, color, and other properties can be customized via text presets. Black background can be created with Solid Color generator.

My approach adds T/C effect to the WHOLE Timeline project, not just an Event.

I expected that, what are you using in your approach?

Do you mean my approach? I use all the elements of VP, no Scripting or additional purchased s/w. As you wanted an "effect" it is purely that, an effect.

I can post the VEG file. What version of Vegas are you using?

[Rick Anvican] "Vegas Pro 12 (b770/x64)"

Done.

T/C is set for 23.97fps, but all you need to do is "change" the Timecode FX for what you want. All of the Vegas Controls are available and I've used then in the way SCS are expecting them to be used. It is ALL here.

This in Preview for Safe Areas:-

This is a VIEW of the Timeline layout with Track HEADER Notes:-

Here's the VEGGIE for VP12 B770:-

As I said, this IS for an "effect".

Cheers

Good.

Did you understand the Project file?

Have you been successful in employing it?

I opened the VEGGIE and was able to change TC framerate to 29.97fps which I'm using,
disabled the test pattern layer, saved it and imported it as a nested project,
working fine.

Much appreciated, thanks again for taking the time to make the VEGGIE.
I'm sure other users will find this useful.
