Can't import large file size
on Jul 29, 2014 at 2:15:46 am

I have a video file that's 61GB and 1:09:00 long. Every time I try to add it to my project media or drag it into the timeline from Windows explorer Vegas just stops responding. Is the file just simply too large and I'm out of luck?

Use MediaInfo and determine the CODEC.

Says AVI (Open DML). Is that what I'm looking for?

Could be that Vegas doesn't have the CODEC to open it, and/or your system can't handle the size of file. What camera did it come off?

What MEDIA can you open in Vegas?

Need to do more research.

The video is captured footage from a game using Mirillis Action. I use footage from this program all the time and this is the first one to give me this issue.

Unless Vegas has a limit on file size it can handle, my system shouldn't have any problem with it. I have a Intel 4770@4.5GHz, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 780 Ti. I don't know if any of that matters.

I looked through my other recordings and it looks like it won't accept anything over 12GB in size. I should mention that I just installed Windows 8.1 a few weeks ago after using Windows 7 for a few years and I think I've only encountered this issue since I got 8.

My largest file is 140GB and I have plenty others that are more than 60GB that I've already edited (on W7). So maybe there's an issue with my install or with Windows 8? I don't seem to be having any issues other than this.
