Frame By Frame?
on Jun 30, 2014 at 5:31:30 pm

For some reason, the video preview doesn't show me moving frame by frame in real-time. I guess a better way to put it would be that as i'm moving forward one frame at a time (with the arrow keys) the video preview does not move forward. It shows that i am indeed moving frame by frame on the frame counter below the video preview, but not on the actual video preview itself.

(Sorry if i didn't articulate my problem very well)

I assume you are talking about the project settings? I have it set to Progressive.

[Rob Doe] "For some reason, the video preview doesn't show me moving frame by frame in real-time."
What makes you think that it's not moving forward? If the preview isn't changing, maybe you have duplicate frames? (or you have disabled resample and forced duplicate frames?)

My bad for the wording on that question, the video is definitely moving forward but the preview is stuck on the same frame. How can i get rid of duplicate frames? My video is recorded at 59.94 fps and the project file is set to 59.94 fps so how did it become duplicate?

It should not have become duplicate. Are you seeing that every two advances of the frames the picture changes? How does it look in a media player? Maybe post screen shots of your project properties and use MediaInfo to confirm the source video's properties. You should not be getting duplicates of the project frame rate matches your source video.

Here are my project settings:

The video runs smoothly with no frame issues in a media player, so it must be something with Sony Vegas.

Your project properties look fine. When you right-click on a video event and select Properties, what does the Media tab say the video format is? 59.940 fps? Just checking to make sure Vegas is reading your video files correctly.

The media tab does show 59.94 fps.

I noticed something kind of strange though.

When i close Sony Vegas and re-open, the problem doesn't happen. This is only if i don't click anything but the play button when i import the video. The frames are advancing along in the preview as i use the arrow keys, but they only do so for about 10-30 frames and then stop displaying on the preview (the counter still goes up though.

That sounds like a bug. I would report it to Sony. I know that sometimes Vegas Pro 13.0 will play the preview window for me but the timeline cursor indicator will not move at all! So there are still some bugs to lurking about.
