xdcam hd with closed caption
on Jun 16, 2014 at 3:41:49 pm

Using VP 13, I have my closed captions all lined up in my project, but when I try to render the video to hd422 1920x1080-60i 50 mbps it doesn't allow me to check the "Save project markers in rendered media file". This option is grayed out and I can't seem to click on anything to activate it. I have been able to add marker and then i can select save project marker but it still doesn't imbed the closed caption in the hd file that export to xdcam.
I rendered a clip to hd422 and then opened it in vegas13 and it shows closed caption yet when i export this clip to xdcam and play no closed caption and there is no closed caption when I import the mxf file from tape.using pdw-hd1500 deckthat plays other files with cc fine to a tek wfm2200.

That options is not for saving closed captions. That option is for saving chapter markers for DVD's which is why it's not available because you don't need it.

If you render the files to XDCAM and drop them back onto the timeline and you see the embedded caption markers then you know the captions are getting into the file. Try using the same file with your CC equipment.

This could be a bug in Vegas Pro with your particular equipment. I would let Sony know about it. Vegas Pro closed captioning does NOT work correctly with the equipment that PBS/NETA uses either and Sony seems to have no interest in fixing it. They claim the equipment is too old for them to worry about supporting. Yours may fall into that category. I would let Sony know just to be sure.

Thanks for submitting this to Sony. I've been complaining about Close Caption issues and it's important to have as many people complaining as possible. Hope they fix it soon.
