A very basic question
on Jun 12, 2014 at 12:12:28 am

Here is a very basic question. If I have a project open on the timeline I can see the individual clips. If I then drag another veg file onto the time line am I supposed to see the individual clips from this newly added veg file or should it appear as one finished longer file? If its the latter what happens if I make a change to the older veg file does it alter whats displayed on the current project?.

Thanks in advance

It should behave as a single piece if media just as if you had rendered it. It's called a "nested project" and is a very useful feature of Vegas Pro.

If you want to make changes to that project, right-click on it and select "Open Project" and it will open another instance of Vegas Pro where you can make your changes, save them, and they will be reflected back on the timeline. This is a great way to split your project up into sub-projects to make each section easier to edit.

John, I am a vegas newbie (vegas 12 pro) and be grateful of some feedback or anyone.....If you have a sony veags project template (entire veg file and plus all it assets images used etc) which someone gave me with some neat effects applied and I want swap out the images and videos for my specific own ones then...how does one go about doing that please?
and making sure you keep the original master one he gave.

***Would I for example double click the original veg file he gave then save as and call it something different? and then HOW do I then start to swap on the time line the vids images he has for inserting my own?

thank you
Jenny

Right-click the event and select Open in Project Media Pool (or something like that I'm doing this from memory) and then in the project media, right-click on the file and select Replace.... That will replace the media that the event is using.

Thanks John...

two things in reply

1) and once I start to change my stuff for the orginal template stuff I presume I save that as: whatever name?

2
****However, how do you make sure you keep and not alter the original master template though he gave
(as I have started to swap things for mine?) in case one needs to refer to that untouched original down the road?

Yes, be sure to Save As... so that you don't overlay the original template.

Yes, I think saving the original is a good idea. I like to do the save as a first step. So I'll open template project and immediately Save As the project I really want. Then I can use Ctrl+S to keep saving my work as I go knowing that I'm not overlaying the template.
