I hate this button because I constantly forget to disable it and that slows my editing :) So I am wondering - is there a way how to enable this function only temporarily (for example by shift+drag - something like that)?

There are 3 different short cuts depending on what you want to do.

F: Affected Tracks
Ctrl+F: Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions
Ctrl+Shift+F: All Tracks, Markers, and Regions

This is in the online help menu under Ripple Editing.

Mike, I think the OP was asking, as we all have at one time or another, is the ability to make ripple a one-time use. I can't begin to count the number of times that I had forgotten to turn ripple off only to see unexpected results in a later edit.

Shortcuts are the best way to apply Auto Ripple when you really need it. You don't have to turn it on.

I understand what you are saying Michal, but i don't know of
a shortcut for a "one time enabling" etc.

WHAT in my post above would trigger the dreaded auto-censor in the Cow?

Mike gave you the "one time enabling"

F: Affected Tracks
Ctrl+F: Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions
Ctrl+Shift+F: All Tracks, Markers, and Regions

Make the change you want and then press "F" to adjust only the affected tracks.

Make the change you want and then press "CTRL+F" to adjust only the Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions.

Make the change you want and then press "Ctrl+Shift+F" to adjust All Tracks, Markers, and Regions

There's your "one time use".
