Blue screen bad lighting . Is this useable ?
on May 29, 2014 at 12:24:08 pm

Hello.. I received footage from a shoot which was shot against a blue screen and erratic lighting. I have attached a link to screengrabs here
https://www.flickr.com/photos/14176520@N07/

I am not an experienced editor and efficient in cuts and a few problem solving edits but not with what I am facing now. The talent moves around a lot and the blue screen is unevenly lit with dark shadows and almost a spotlight on the blue screen. I'm using Vegas Pro 12 .

Is there any solution that I can utilise to save this project. I'm happy just to get the model clean with a black backround if that's all I can achieve. Are there links to tutorials which can help?

All the Best
david

Short answer, no.

Longer answer, no, probably not as bluescreen. It's not an awful shot as it is, but it wouldn't even have occurred to me that someone was trying to do chroma key with that setup. It's artsy and all, but it doesn't look close to being keyable.

What in the world?
Sorry Scott, that's not gonna work. That doesn't seem as if they were
shooting with a blue screen in mind. Can hardly make out any blue
at all.

I gotta agree. I had no idea that was supposed to be a blue screen shot if you hadn't told me. That isn't keyable at all. There just isn't enough light on the background.

Hi..thanks for all the answers. No matter what I've tried it certainly isn't keyable. I've managed to use masking and selecting shots that will work.

[David van Rensburg] "I've managed to use masking and selecting shots that will work."
Yea, After Effects has a Roto Brush tool that will do automatic rotoscoping so that might help but even that tool needs clean edges and some of your shots don't even have that. Hopefully this is a lesson learned if someone thought they were shooting for blue-screen.
