Exporting ONLY AUDIO to audio engineer.

When working in broadcast industry you are beginning to collaborate with many proffessionals. For example with audio engineers. Exporting to Protools doesnt work well. You need third party software and its not easy to use. Also sending big sessions to audio engineer who is using Sony Vegas is cumbersome because you cant simply export a session with audio media files only. There is an option of saving a project with media files but it copies the video media as well (some video files contain audio that we want to use). Such session weights too much to send it via Internet. Audio engineer doesnt need video footage.

There should be an option of saving only audio media files. The audio from video should be extracted to wave format. Whats more, there should be an option to trim audio (and define how many seconds to trim). The process finally should result in a new veg file with audio files instead of video.

I am suprised that the new archive feature of SV13 lacks this simple solution. Maybe the VEGASAUR or VASST creators could help?

I periodically deal with an audio engineer who uses the latest version of Sonar from Cubase.
My last job for him was a 2.5 hr. wrestling match with 10 audio tracks (some mono and some stereo).
I used Trackalizer from VASST (it's free) to export the individual audio tracks and gave him a low res mp4 file for a video reference.
He had no problems importing the files into Sonar, processing them and sending them back to me.
The page mentions that it's good for up to Pro 9 but I used Pro 12 and did not have any problems.

Mike,

I am not talking about exporting wave files of each track. I am talking about sending a working session to the audio engineer. This is how it should be done if we want to be PRO.

Grzegorz, I guess we have a difference of opinion then as I consider what I described as a working session. No different than a multi-track session with a band.

[Grzegorz Kwiatkowski] "I am not talking about exporting wave files of each track. I am talking about sending a working session to the audio engineer. This is how it should be done if we want to be PRO."
Are you saying that File | Export | Pro Tools AAF File didn't work? That should be the proper way to export a project for an audio engineer with just audio. It renders the audio from video files as separate AIF files. This sounds like exactly what you want.

Yes... it renders the files to aiff. I hoped it would work but... when my Protools engineer opens the session, he gets over hundred tracks.. whats more, they are not in sync. Heh

I tried this with two diffeent versions of Protools.

Whats the point of including a feature that doesnt work???

[Grzegorz Kwiatkowski] "Whats the point of including a feature that doesnt work???"
No point at all! ;-)

I did some testing and it seems to have a bug where it renders 4x the files it needs. I had a simple timeline with one video+stereo audio file and it rendered 8 mono AIF files which were the left and right tracks 4 time each. I have no idea why it did this.

When I imported the same AAF file into Vegas Pro it correctly placed the left and right audio files onto two tracks in the same location but it also imported the other 3 unused copies into the media bins. Perhaps that's why you got 100's of tracks?

You might want to report to Sony that this isn't working as intended. A lot of times these import/export features come with a long list of restrictions but this seems like it might be a bug to me.

It is more than a bug, rather a sign of big ignorance. It's not a detail you can forget about. It has been there at least since SV12 and nobody fixed it. I will contact them. Protools is industry standard. If Sony wants to go this way, they must work it out.

I understand quite well the features you are describing Grzegorz,
But unfortunately Vegas handles media content differently than the
norm and is lacking in specialized features.... Thats why in
the PRO world as you put it, you more than likely have to use more
than one tool to get the job done.
