vegas 12 and 13 not rendering .mov files
on Apr 28, 2014 at 6:53:55 pm

Hello,
Vegas 12 and 13 stop rendering for me after about 10 - 17% and freeze. I had the DNxHD working for a few renders but now it does the same. Any suggestions on how to remedy. I need to provide this type of file to Tv for broadcast. Vegas 13 worked in demo mode but as soon as I purchased and unlocked it thinking I would have solved the problem, It also now behaves the same way. I did render a few times with the demo logo on perfectly. ???

Thanks,
Brett

Does it always stop in the same place? (maybe it's something on the timeline)

What version of QuickTime are you using? (make sure it's the latest)

Can you render to other formats that are not QuickTime? (is it a timeline problem or a render format problem)

I can render in any other format fine. I was rendering in DNxHD great until I stopped a render mid way to use the computer for another ap. When I came back to render again vegas 12 would not even start the render. It would just sit on 0 frames and count percentages. I downloaded Vegas 13 and the demo rendered great but put watermaks on the video. I purchased the product thinking that my problem was solved with the advertised new handling of .mov file but the same problem came back with the fully opened product. Both 12 and 13 will not render my timeline from the beginning.

That's very strange. MOV files have a particular problem in Vegas that might be causing this. If you interrupt a render, it leaves a temporary file that it cannot delete and it cannot start another render with the same name until you delete it. Try exiting Vegas and deleting any temporary files in the render folder to be sure this is not causing your renders to not start. This should also be cleared by using a different file name.

I thought that might be the case. I have tried with a new name and even a different hard drive. I should try to clear vegas's temp file. Still stumping me. I've had vegas since it was invented. I understand how these little qwerky things can happen. I'm sure there must be a solution. Thanks so much for your ideas and suggestions. I'm going to keep trouble shooting this.

I would contact Sony. Since t happens with the new Vegas Pro 13.0, I would think they would be very interested in knowing what's causing this. Especially since the trial worked and the paid version doesn't. This is very strange.

Have you consider getting a Mac as a solution? I'm serious. QuickTime files are the native format for Mac. They have terrible support on Windows. If you need to deliver QuickTime format you should seriously consider buying a Mac and getting the support you need. (btw, I say this because I moved to Mac several years ago and don't use Vegas Pro or Windows anymore. I continue to help people on this forum because of my extensive knowledge of Vegas Pro after using it for over 11 years but I have to chuckle when I see people having problems that I solved a long time ago by moving to the Mac.) Not sure how bad your need is to support QuickTime MOV files. Just something to consider.
