Sony Vegas Bitrate - Specifying Length of Project
on Apr 15, 2014 at 6:36:36 pm

Hi guys,

Will appreciate any help on this one. I am burning a DVD (25p). My project length is three separate video clips (1080p) totalling a length of around 80 minutes. To render I am using MPEG-2. My question concerns calculating the bit rate. When calculating the bit rate for rendering each of the three separate clips in Vegas, do I specify the length of that clip, or the total length of the DVD?

Thanks!

If you're trying to figure out how much you can fit on a DVD, you'll be looking at (total video time) * (bitrate). There are lots of bitrate calculators around that'll work out the fine points for you and give you a reasonable number. I used one recently that even recommended an average, peak and minimum bitrate for two-pass rendering.

Now, you won't be rendering 1080p for DVD. DVD doesn't go that high. You'll want to use the Mainconcept DVD rendering template and adjust your bitrate there.

Mark's Bitrate Calculator
I found this bitrate calculator and I use it often for that purpose.
