Vegas on HiDPI monitor

I just upgraded my notebook to one that has a HiDPI screen (3200x1800).. All the menus and buttons in vegas are now TINY, almost not usable.. Is there a fix for this?

Hi Matthew,
The screen resolution has nothing to do with Vegas-it is set within Windows.
If you have a Windows 7 machine you control the screen resolution by going to:
control panel/appearance and personalization/display/screen resolution.

[Colin Morris] "If you have a Windows 7 machine you control the screen resolution by going to: control panel/appearance and personalization/display/screen resolution."
Whatever you do, don't change the system font size. It will mess a lot of software up, especially plug-ins in Vegas because the Windows font system has some nasty side effects and words and dialog boxes will get cut off with the larger DPI fonts.

In general your options are: get glasses, change the resolution of the screen to something lower, or don't buy such high resolution screen next time. Your screen resolution needs to be matched to the physical screen size. It doesn't make sense to buy a small screen that is high resolution and then complain that everything it too small. BTW, I was serious about getting glasses. I had to when I hit 40 years old. It happens. ;-)

Just for comparison, my 24" monitors are 1920x1200. A 3200x1800 monitor should be at least 27" for comfortable viewing. I doubt highly your laptop is 27". It seems like a good idea to get a high resolution monitor until you see how small it makes everything. lol.

I think this is more a scaling issue within Vegas, it is not letting windows know that it should be scaled up.. Other programs are having the same problem with the new higher-res displays (apple calls it 'retina display').. Adobe had to send out a fix so all it's programs would scale properly.. Here's hoping Sony will do the same!

I found a temporary workaround.
Here is what I was seeing before:

I edited the manifest and changed dpiAware to FALSE and now it scales correctly (although a little blurry).. See here:

I'm not sure if this is a Sony problem or a Windows problem but at least it is usable now

Here is an article on the HiDPI monitor thing. They talk about the various options various versions of Windows has had for applications to try and function properly.

If Vegas stated it was DPI aware and did not self adjust their icons and such due to this, then shame on Sony. At least when an app does not declare itself, you don't get the micro UI features. Not ideal but better than nothing.
