Request advice on converting .m2ts video to DVD format
on Apr 10, 2014 at 11:15:38 am

I recently completed and burned a 40-minute Blu Ray video and would appreciate advice on how to create DVDs.

1. Should I rerender the .m2ts video file or rerender the original, which was shot in HD? I'm using Vegas Pro 11.

2. Which of the Vegas render options would give me the best quality?

I tried rerendering the .m2ts file using Main Concept, 720x480 for DVD Architect, 29.97 fps, and burned a DVD but was disappointed by the excessive shimmer and rather dismal quality. Is there a better way?

Thanks for reading this, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you render using Best quality? The default is to use the project quality, and the default project quality is Good, but for scaling from HD to DVD you need to use Best.

Thanks for your reply. I followed Douglas Spotted Eagle's recommended settings, which included Video Quality set on High, CBR @ 8,000,000, 4:3 display (for the first render) and widescreen for the second render. Both were unusable, notwithstanding the expected quality difference between 1920x1080 and 740x480.

Sorry if my instructions weren't clear. This is what you should try:
  1. In the Render As window, press the Customize Template... button
  2. Go to the Project tab
  3. Under Video rendering quality select Best.
Then save the template and render and see if it makes a difference.

Hi John. Your suggestion resulted in a little better quality clip. At least the speakers' lips no longer shimmer when they talk. :-) Thanks again.

Great! I'm glad that improved things for you. Whenever you are resizing video, use Best quality. Otherwise the Good setting is OK.
