Vegas 13 Shuffle tool

At about 3.00 minute, he shows the "shuffle Tool"
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/video/collections-nab2014/video-announcing_vegas13

Is this the equivalent of the magnetic timeline in FCPX (I think) John Rofrano was talking about some post ago?

No, Vegas has that similarity looong time, but this new feature
takes it a lot further now in Vegas.

The shuffle tool should be very useful.
It does seem to replicate the FCPX magnetic timeline and in a better way, you can switch it off by selecting another tool.

And if you would want to follow the FCPX editing paradigm, you could always use the sync link feature and connect your events to your primary event or any event perhaps, because you are not bounded to a primary storyline as in FCPX.

Will be very interesting to see how this new tool behaves on the timeline with sync link and the other tools like the split tool.

Sony brought some very great shortcuts in V12, all of which has made for a faster and more fluid editing experience in Vegas.

Looking forward to V13.

How is the Shuffle Tool any different from just moving events on the timeline with autoripple turned on?

With autoripple turned on, you cannot insert an event without everything moving along. This feature alone will greatly accelerate the editing process.

[Stephen Mann] "How is the Shuffle Tool any different from just moving events on the timeline with autoripple turned on?"

With ripple on, selecting one event and trying to move it in front of the event to its left will drag everything to the right of the selected event over the top (covering) of the one event you are trying to scoot by.

Move to the right and it leaves a gap. All events to the right of the one being dragged move with the dragged event.

I just hope that they assigned it a keyboard shortcut. I haven't seen a popup on the demo showing one.

Vegas has so many keyboard shortcuts, what keys are left for them to use. Probably not anything mnemonic. Those tools certainly cry out for a shortcut.

Vegas has had the ability to shuffle events as far back as version 7, maybe earlier but 7 is the oldest on my computer.

Right-click and drag an event to a new location on the timeline.
From the shortcut menu, choose Shuffle Events.

I am speechless Mike! So this is possibly the same feature as in V13, only they made it into a new tool and one could have it selected while doing some shuffling.

I do like the fact that you can right-click your event and drag it, very convenient, will definitely be using it this way.

Thanks for sharing.

Vegas has SO many keyboard shortcuts and keyboard mouse click modifiers we don't really remember them all or even know they exist.

A tool on the toolbar is in your face and thus hard to miss.
