Hopefully the wait to release this means that it will be functional on release and not just after the first or second update.

Now I just have to upgrade my computer.

I just hope they don't decide to go the Adobe route and you have to "rent" the software from here on out!

IMHO, it would be a big mistake for any company to do what Adobe is doing. Having optional maintenance contracts is one thing, but renting software that stops working when you stop paying is unbelievable. Image if every software company did this? How many software packages do you have on your PC? Probably 10's if not 100's. Imagine if you had to pay 100 rental fees a month!!! Computers would become unaffordable due to software licensing.

Rightly put John, utter madness. Software licensing would throw
everything out of whack.

"Rent" is too mild a term, albeit fundamentally accurate. I think we agreed on "Ransomware" here. That's what I'm calling it.

Yes, the reason we call it "ransomware" is because it stops working if you stop paying instead of letting you keep the last version that you paid for. So if you fall on hard times and can't pay, your times just got even harder because you also can't work because your tools stopped working. No business person in their right might would agree to held for ransom like this.

All Adobe has to do is say that you can continue to use the last version you bought without future updates if you can't afford to pay and I would be 100% OK with what they are doing. I just can't allow a company to have that much control over my ability to conduct business.

Such a simple solution.... such s stupid company.

For those of you who aren't on the Sony Vegas forum, here's what Chris Dolan from Sony had to say on that forum earlier today.

I'm glad I can finally post on this thread now that VP13 is official. :-)

In addition to the sales/marketing folks, there will be three Vegas programmers manning the NAB booth next week, including me. I hope to meet many of you there, and talk about the new (and old) features of Vegas.

What the soundbites don't say is that we've fixed a HUGE number of stability bugs since Vegas 12 was first released in September 2012. Many of those fixes are already present in VP12 b770, since we don't hold back bugs for new releases. For those of you who have called for stability before features, I hope that you'll really love VP13 and notice that we've been listening.

If you do have stability problems with VP12 or VP13, please do send us your reports via the ErrorReporter, with comments about anything you can think of related to the crash. We do read those comments, and I personally tend to prioritize the crashes that have comments before the ones without.

Along these lines, we've made a noteworthy upgrade for VP13 that hopefully will be largely invisible to you: we're using a much newer C++ compiler and we're using .NET4. Both of those make it much easier to diagnose crash reports (plus, they've given Vegas a modest but measurable speed boost). A group of beta testers have been very helpful in identifying glitches with that upgrade so hopefully it will be seamless for the rest of you when VP13 hits the streets.

Chris

From Chris' comment it sounds like VP13 will be everything we wanted VP12 to be and should work equally as well on any workstation that VP12 is currently running on. We'll have to wait and see. ;-)

Vegas Pro will never work on Mac until SCS completely rewrite it and remove all dependencies on Microsoft technologies (like .NET etc.)

Well, they completely rewrote Sound Forge for Mac and they can use AppleScript to expose their API instead of .Net so it's totally possible.

That's to bad, was always my favorite event of the year. See you at the show.lookimg forward to seeing the new vegas. I work for a company that keeps mocking me for using vegas and not switching to adobe. I've been with vegas since beta and I don't plan on switching now.:)

So, they actually want you to take twice as long to get your work done using Adobe's cumbersome interface? lol (hey, if you get paid by the hour I would switch) ;-)

Here's to hoping for an updated compatibility list of graphics cards (both nVidia and Radeon) for accelerated rendering via GPU.

That would be great.

I hope Sony's aggressively trying to match and out perform Adobe with their list of updates for Premiere.

I am working in a broadcast environment and there is one thing that is HELL. I cannot export SV12 session to Protools. My clients demand this. AAFs dont work as they should. There is also no OMF option. I am really thinking of switching to a different NLE although I love Vegas.

Just too much pressure from the broadcast industry.

I dont understand why Sony Creative Software have ignored this issue for so long. If SV13 doesnt have these features improved, I am giving up.

Thanks John..
Vegas is known for it's fast and easy working environment but in term of rendering to Quicktime its so much of works and hassle.. have to render in lossless for Squeeze or Quicktime pro, not to forget how big is the lossless file will be and may experience some error.. start render all over and its a waste on lot of time..
Why cant Vegas support Squeeze as rendering tools.. not to watch folder or online exports..not all user connected to fast internet,

Ahh..so much to say but Good Luck Vegas 13.
