Displaying a audio wave form on video footage
on Mar 29, 2014 at 1:37:58 pm

I would like to create a piece of footage that uses the audio wave form of the audio being spoken on the video itself. Example: recreating a phone conversation and having that video waveform displayed on the video over for example a picture of a cell phone. Any Help here?

A screen capture utility can do this. I had one several years ago called Replay, but I'm sure the gamers have lots of choices for video screen capture.

Make a still image from a screen capture of the just the audio track on the Vegas Pro timeline (or open the audio in an editor and zoom all the way out so that you can see the whole waveform). Then scroll that image in a small window over the video. You would use Pan/Crop's Match Output Aspect to just show a piece of the audio and Track Motion to scroll it from left to right.

Had a quick ten minutes to think about this and was going to do the same as John Rofrano mentioned in Adobe Auditions but I downloaded FREE Winscope prog and also some phone voice samples. Played the sample with Stereo MIX slider selection and captured the Winscope display in Camtasia and then some pics of a phone, etc from the WEB. I was not sure exactly what you were trying to achieve so I made a sample which will help me understand and also other,,,, Just a very quick and dirty effort and if you need the VEG I can give it to you if it is something which may help you........

[john bolton] "Just trying to help others in the same way that you provide so much valuable information"
That is probably the greatest compliment that I could ever get. To be an example that others follow is quite an honor... I am truly humbled. My daily goal is to be a positive influence on others and to help people along the way. Thank you for validating that some days I actually achieve it. ;-)

Thanks to all for your input on this question. I am still playing with it using your suggestions. At this point I think the best results I have had is using AE to capture the waveform and rendering that to a AVI file and using PIP of that footage in my video. I also tried using Chroma Key and other ideas. John, I am still working on your ideas, but I am having trouble making the waveform appear to be "live" using track motion, maybe you could explain that a little more. BUT THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME TO HELP! Mark
