Final transition has a black page before transitions begins....
on Mar 14, 2014 at 9:55:56 pm

Hello,
I am new to this software so bear with me.

My first project has about 8 sub-clips the total video
will be about 1 minute long.

So...I did select all, which added 1 transition in between
each sub-clip just perfect! Just what I wanted.

Problem is that right before the final transition, after sub-clip 7, right before sub-clip 8...there is an area of blackness right before
the transition starts, then it finishes sub-clip 8.

This is driving me NUTZ! I joined this forum just to ask.
I do need my 12 year old daughters 60 second movie perfect you know! LOL

Post a screengrab of that region/area here. Without a visual indication I'd be guessing. But others might get straight to it!

ok...I will try to get a screen shot.
I will be new to doing that so dont give up on me if it takes me a while.

ETA: Here it is. The first 3 pics are a good transition.
The second 3 pics are the faulty transition. it stays on the black page for 8 frames.
I have tried everything I can think of. different transitions. adding them one by one as
opposed to select all method. I have tried deleting the sub-clips and starting over.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

O...K...

That's what you see when you Preview - yes?

What I was after seeing was a ScreenGrab of your actual Vegas Timeline clearly showing the Media sitting on the Tracks, the Transion Controls and the areas around that Overlap.

Try this: Go into Options | Preferences | Video and change GPU Acceleration to None. Restart Vegas and try again. Whenever I see odd things happening with transitions it's usually a GPU bug. If not, change to back (that wasn't it).

Graham and John,
Thank you for helping me.
"Screen Shot" that is so hilarious...I had no idea!
I thought I did such a good job! Funny!

Here is what I came up with, I did the GPU thing and I will see what happens.
In the meantime, I found a second choice for a transition that does not have the same issue.

I am pretty certain that I do not have a good enough computer for this software.
For now, while I am learning Sony Vegas I will be ok.
The more comfortable that I get with learning the software and if I get some good results.
I would like a new pc, had this one since 2008.

So let me ask you guys something. When you were first learning Sony Vegas,
how many hours would you spend on your initial projects.

[dawn raine] "So let me ask you guys something. When you were first learning Sony Vegas, how many hours would you spend on your initial projects."
I've been editing with Vegas Pro for over 10 years so it's hard to remember back that far but I did spend a lot of time editing projects. I can give you a current comparison. I just started learning Final Cut Pro X and I can tell you that something that should take me 15 minutes to do takes about an hour because, while I know what I want to accomplish, I have to look up how it is done in FCP X. I'm getting faster now but earning a new NLE is always slow going at first until you figure out and remember where everything is. Like anything else, edit a little each day and it will become second nature before long. The the answer to your questions of "How long so you spend..." is "...as much time as it takes". ;-)

Ya I suppose! I am self taught. I remember when I learned PhotoShop and PaintShop.
I thought I was never going to get the hang of it. Now it is a piece of cake.
Thank goodness I learned that, before this. It has helped with my understanding.

I mean at least for the things I am doing. Just home videos of my children.
I wish I could go to school and "really" learn how to use this software.

Hello anyone still out there?

I figured out what was wrong only I dont know how to fix it.

The transition is not overlapping on either side of some clips.
I do have the clips set to automatically overlap one another.
Stretching the event only messes the clip up, making it repeat a portion of it.
I dopnt know how to click and drag just the transition without stretching the event.

What do I do...I cant seem to fix it.

OK, now I'd need to see a Screen Grab of the Timeline showing me the Events that are giving you grief. I'm sure there is a solution, it sounds like a repeat or a "Loop" going on.

Let's see that section in a screen grab - yeah?

Does this help you to help me?
Thank you again!

On the bottom screen shot. I did make the second part slow motion intentionally.
So that shouldn't be the problem. It works on the other ones that I did that way.

Oh and ya' sorry to be a bother gain...I did try to drag the clip to make it look like
the one does on the top. But then what happened to me was it caused the clip to stutter.
How do I say that right? Like a stutter repeat of the clip, like a skip in a record.
Remember lp records? LOL

Ah, righto! - From reading your "grab", you've appeared to have extended the Event from A >>> B and have created a Loop. You haven't done this in the piece below 'cos you have Stretched it instead.

What do you think now?

You can't extend the edge of the event. That's what's causing it to loop. You need to physically move the entire event to the left to make the overlap.

In the second grab is the one where I have the area of black before the transitions. That I do not want.

O.k... I deleted everything and started over. So let me ask this?

I put the events in one at a time. I time stretched every other event.
Each event is bumped up next to one another. No overlapping done by me.
I checked each one over and over again. No events are moved over the other.
I do have the automatic crossfades highlighted up on the top toolbar.

THEN...I select all and added my transitions...bad news...same results.
I am getting close to giving up. But I am too stubborn for that.

I have read and watched just about every tutorial that I can find.
Meanwhile the laundry is piling up! LOL

Your problem is that you have the events end-to-end with no overlap. A transition REQUIRES that they be overlapped. You need to overlap each event by moving them over each other for the duration of the transition. Then you can apply transitions other than the default crossfade.

Ok...Thank you.
I will try that next time I mess with it.
I actually got frustrated and decided to take a break.
That is hard to do as I am normally pretty stubborn.
Thank you guys!
