Is it possible to create a shortcut for selecting a track's right or left channel?

Cheers,

Gilles

Are you talking about recording input? There could be multiple depending on your audio device so I don't think a short cut could select one. Also tracks don't have output channels, events do so you would need to change all of the events to just use their left or right channel. This is what the Stereo to Mono script does and you can bind a script to a short-cut so that can be done.

John,

I'm talking about r-clicking an audio clip and selecting "channels-leftOnly" for ex.

Save this as "Stereo Split.js"

/**
* This script will split a stereo track into two separate tracks.
*
* Written By: Edward Troxel
* Copyright 2005 - JETDV Scripts
* Modified: 10-17-2005
**/

import System;
import System.IO;
import System.Windows.Forms;
import Sony.Vegas;

try {
for(var track : Track in Vegas.Project.Tracks)
{
if (track.IsAudio() && track.Selected)
{
//Add a new audio track
var Rtrack = new AudioTrack(track.Index, "Audio-Right");
Vegas.Project.Tracks.Add(Rtrack);

for(var evnt : TrackEvent in track.Events)
{
//Copy all events to the Ltrack
var mynewEvent = evnt.Copy(Rtrack, evnt.Start);
//Set right to disable left
var audioEvent : AudioEvent = AudioEvent(mynewEvent);
audioEvent.Channels = ChannelRemapping.DisableLeft;
//Set left to disable right
audioEvent = AudioEvent(evnt);
audioEvent.Channels = ChannelRemapping.DisableRight;
}
break;
}
}

} catch (e) {
MessageBox.Show(e);
}

Vegas Pro ships with a script called Stereo to Mono that does this for you. You can bind that script to a short-cut key.

Thanks for trying to help guys. I don't think I'm clear enough.

I have footage with an stereo audio track. It is split into many events.

I want to bind 2 short cut keys to commands that will "select left channel" and "select right channel". This way, as I watch the footage, I can quickly select the channel I want the audio of the event to use. At the moment, I have to do with the right-clicking the audio event with the mouse, selecting "channels" then "right only" or "left only".

How to I bind shortcut keys to these "mouse functions"?

I hope this makes more sense.

Gilles

I'm aware that I can select events and do it globally that way, but I'd like to have a shortcut so I can select L/R quickly as I go through my footage.

Pro 10 also has the ability to import stereo audio as separate files.
Options - Preferences - Import Stereo as Dual Mono.

Thanks Mike,

That's not what I'm after though. I'm surprised but I guess there is no way to do it.
sigh...

You can do it with two scripts. Drop them into your Vegas Script Menu folder, assign one to each of two keypressed and you're all set:

Use this one for Right Channel audio:
///*************************************************************
/// Program: Use Right Channel Audio.cs
/// Author: John Rofrano
/// Description: Switches all of the events on a track to use
/// the right audio channel
/// Last Updated: January 4, 2012
/// Copyright: (c) 2012 VASST, All Rights Reserved
///*************************************************************
using System;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using Sony.Vegas;

public class EntryPoint
{
public void FromVegas(Vegas vegas)
{
try
{
// process any selected track that has audio
foreach (Track track in vegas.Project.Tracks)
{
if (track.IsAudio() && track.Selected)
{
foreach (AudioEvent audioEvent in track.Events)
{
audioEvent.Channels = ChannelRemapping.DisableLeft;
}
}
}
}
catch (Exception e)
{
MessageBox.Show("Error: " + e.Message, "Critical Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Stop);
}
}
}

Use this one for Left Channel audio:
///*************************************************************
/// Program: Use Left Channel Audio.cs
/// Author: John Rofrano
/// Description: Switches all of the events on a track to use
/// the left audio channel
/// Last Updated: January 4, 2012
/// Copyright: (c) 2012 VASST, All Rights Reserved
///*************************************************************
using System;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using Sony.Vegas;

public class EntryPoint
{
public void FromVegas(Vegas vegas)
{
try
{
// process any selected track that has audio
foreach (Track track in vegas.Project.Tracks)
{
if (track.IsAudio() && track.Selected)
{
foreach (AudioEvent audioEvent in track.Events)
{
audioEvent.Channels = ChannelRemapping.DisableRight;
}
}
}
}
catch (Exception e)
{
MessageBox.Show("Error: " + e.Message, "Critical Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Stop);
}
}
}

GREAT!
Thanks so much John! I'll add the scripts and link kbd shortcuts to them.

This will really come in handy when I 2 cams and various mics on the 4 channels.

Thanks again!

Gilles
