Vegas 11 performance improvements

I am absolutely amazed at the video preview window's response time with Vegas Pro 11.

I am viewing, in real time, croped parts of 4 AVCHD files. Each has Levels, Sharpen and Color Corrector event FXs.
It is so smooth it feels like a RAM preview.

Great job Sony, definitely worth the upgrade.

How are you getting this? I'm very disappointed by what I'm seeing with Vegas 11, and I have an i7 950 3.04 Ghz cpu, 12 GB DDR3 RAM, and a GeForce GTS 450. Multicamera editing with four video tracks drags things significantly. Do I just need 24 GB DDR3 RAM like yourself?

Angelo,

I don't know... I did fire-up 10.0 and watch the same project, and it was lag-city all over again. I previewed my project again in 11 to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

What multi-cam are you using? I am using Ultimate-S, I wrote my post (croped parts of 4 AVCHD...) so people would be able to understand without knowing how Ultimate-S sets up the tracks.

Maybe it's having 2 GTX-460's, 336 CUDA Cores each, they are middle-of-the-road, performance wise, but overall decent cards. My Memory is pretty good, 8-8-8. I also have a SATA 3.0 SSD for the system drive.

Have you read any of the performance posts on this forum?

I've read some, yes, though a lot of the information sort of goes over my head. I'm using Sony's built in multicamera function. Do you think I'll see a difference using Ultimate S?

Two GTX 460's? My goodness. I'm broke as it is and just bought the 450. Vegas 11 should be able to use my Radeon 6870, which I already had, but I was desperate to finish a project last night and was hoping that getting the GTS 450 would help me out.

I just reinstalled Vegas 10 and multicamera editing is running way better, as usual. You can read about the other problems I've been having with 11 today, including not being able to stabilize video because I get error reports at 99%, and Vegas 11 not displaying my footage in the proper aspect ratio (changing project settings to match footage did nothing-I have to do through each piece of media and right click, then change the aspect ratio to 1.33, and I have thousands of video clips that I'd have to go through). And all Vegas 11 did was slow me down considerately in the last 24 hours.

And, on switching back to Vegas 10, all my clips are in their proper, 1.33 aspect ratio. How did Vegas 11 mess that up?!

For me Vegas 11 finally fixed GPU processing. It never worked in 10 for anything. I have a GTX465.

Regarding your nvidia card my understanding is the hierarchy of cards (and performance) is
Highest: GTX
Midrange: GT
Lowest: GTS

So, you basically have a low-end nvidia video card.

While now having the GPU speedup for playback and rendering is impressive and nice to have, Sony should have fixed this in V10!

And, I wish they would take a poll of how many of their users actually do 3D anything. Perhaps a little less focus on new unused features such as 3D, and fixing the problems might provide an incentive for others to upgrade.

As a data point, most of my previous projects are not importing/opening without addressing various issues.

Steve

Yeesh. So maybe I'll sell my Radeon and my GTS.

What was the problem with the Radeon? An HD 6870 should be a fine GPU for Vegas, at least in theory. What are you seeing with it?
