Hi Jack

First thing to check, is your OS recognizing the Canopus 'cuz if the OS is not seeing the Canopus then no software will.

When your done checking, please post machine and OS specs.

Cheers !

Francois,

I'm not much of a techie. How can I tell if my computer is seeing the Canopus?

I have a custom PC with an ASUS P7P5SD (green) motherboard, an Intel quad CPU,

Hi Jack

I will assume that your are running Win 10.

Go to Start/Settings/Devices and under Other Devices your Canopus should be showing.

Cheers !

Hi Jack

This is definitely not the best explanatory video but it will tell how to get to device manager in Win 7.

Ok. Here is where I am.

1. Grass Valley no longer supports my canopus 110
2. In my Device Manager I have an active firewire
3. A release from Grass Valley declares that the 110 has been tested and absolutely works with W 7
4. Perhaps I don't understand how to make the connection to my Vegas 12.

Hi Jack

The problem seems to be with the way your Canopus communicates with your computer. Make sure that the hook-ups are correct. I have included a link to a user manual for your Canopus in case you (or any others coming here) need to do some troubleshooting. Have a good read, even the best of us miss something...sometimes. (Don't forget about those pesky hard to read dip switches, page 16)

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/71386.pdf

Once you will have solved your communication problem with your computer, Vegas should recognize it straight off.

P.S.: When you get it working (and it will) please come back and let us know how you did it, so that the next person can benefit.

Cheers !

I thought I had read that Windows 7 has a problem with some Firewire devices requiring that you use the "Legacy" Firewire drivers. Here is an article about it:

Changing to the Legacy IEEE-1394 (Firewire) Driver in Windows 7

It might have something to do with it.

John,

Followed directions for loading legacy, but nothing so far. Perhaps I don't understand how to make the connection to Vegas 12.

Well the first thing you need to do is make sure that Windows 7 can connect to your device. I have the Canopus ADVC300 but the ADVC100 should look very similar.

In your Windows 7 Device Manager, under Imaging devices do you have a device called AV/C Tape Recorder/Player?

If you don't see this device, then Windows 7 can't see your Canopus ADVC100 and Vegas Pro will never see it. So let's start there.

John, I noticed that I see AV/C Tape Recorder/Player only when my Canopus is turned on.

Great! Yes, the device is a "real" device so if it's turned off Windows won't see it. That's great news, that means that Windows 7 can see your ADVC100.

Next, with the ADVC100 turned on, in Vegas Pro 12 when you go to File | Capture Video... to capture your tapes, do you see this dialog box pop up and do your select DV? (you should)

That should bring up the VidCap program that captures from DV tape.

And you should see the window above. Do you get that?

When I get to the vidcap screen it references Manycam, which I have on my computer. I have a blue box that says preview is turned off, even tho I have it turned on. Boy, here's where I start to get real confused!!

I'm guessing that this is your problem right there.

Open the Video menu from the top menu bar and select your Canopus ADVC100. That should make it talk to the Canopus device instead of Manycam and allow you to capture your tapes.

Thank you John Rofran for referring to that Article about using Legacy Drivers under Windows 7. I have an ADVC-55 and I was having issues. These forums are great for resources and help.

Great! I'm glad that helped. I have a bunch of tapes that I have to sit down and capture so I'm about to go through the same thing with my ADVC300.
