Batch Turn Regions into Sub-Clips. (from one track-pair) (Vegas Pro 13)
on Jan 25, 2018 at 12:08:01 pm

I have an audio and video track starting with file A, followed by file B, followed by file C. I have 20 regions, spread over all three files. Can I batch convert the regions into sub-clips? How?

If part of file A overlapped part of file B, could a region at that location become a sub-clip?

(I read on https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/992277 that we can't turn regions into subclips if the region contains multiple source files, but that left me with the above questions.)

If the audio and video track were from different source files, a sub-clip could not be created, right?

Thanks

Using Vegas Pro 13 on Windows 10

That's correct.

A Media File = A Clip.

A Subclip is a Sub-Media file not Multiple Media files. So a sub-clip must be a subset of one media file (i.e., smaller than a clip).

Can anyone help with my main questions (the first two)?

VASST Marker Editor can convert Regions to Subclips. Obviously if a region spans two files it cannot do the conversion because a sub clip can only be made from a single file. Unfortunately, you cannot buy it right now (we're working on a new eCommercce solution) but if you send an email to our support email at vasst.com we will help you out.

No, a subclip must be from one single file.

You could use "tools/scripting/batch render" to batch render the regions to MXF files (these are essentially lossless). This is not the same as sub-clips, but it might provide a solution.

Actually, that's the only solution if you need to combine content from two different files. Good suggestion. Maybe make subclips for everything that is from a single file and MXF for all of the combined files.
