Worth the upgrade from 14 to 15?
on Dec 18, 2017 at 6:54:04 pm

I have a new killer computer i9 with Nvidia 1080 gpu, nothing but render issues and poor playback in version 14.
I will miss my Mercalli, but the plug-ins they are adding in now, seems decent.

Any input is helpful if it worth upgrading from 14-15.

Thanks in advance!

[Scott Francis] "I will miss my Mercalli"
Why? I’m running Mercalli in VP15.

Moving from VP14 to 15 has been a revelation.

Thanks!

I am not paying for Mercali when it came free in 14. Is your version of Mercali from Prodad or MVP 14 purchase?

Thanks for your help!

Ah right. Yes, I’ve been on their upgrade path ever since I purchased PD from way back.

Now that I've been using it for some time, and recently I needed to go back to VP14, I wanted to get back into VP15 rather quickly. Why?

1/- Easy-On-The-Eye The look the new darker GUI. - Revelation!

2/- Selective Paste Event Attributes: If you've known the frustrations of having ALL the Params of the Source Media being transferred to the Target then this option to only carry-over that which you want - Revelation!

3/- The "Hamburger" Configurable visible button sets: Feeling cluttered on the Track Header or Event? I can now elect for the ones I want.

4/- Track grouping: The way it is now presented is far better - for me. Revelation!

5/- Stability, stability, stability : They've done something to improve this. Not such a revelation, more a case of well yes, Id expect stability.

6/- Expanding Tab Reveals: There's now a small SQUARE Icon on the Tabs that when click widens the View of that Tab to across the whole Screen. Revelation!

7/- Freeze Frame at Cursor: Dead easy now. Revelation!

OK, each one taken separately for me it's a "Neah - not so much", but just these "7-EVEN", taken as an aggregate and now seeing how these actual assists are available to me in getting to my Narrative, then yes, a revelation. I don't know your workflow, and maybe these new small features aren't a revelation enough for you - I wouldn't know? What is something revealing is the drive VEGAS has of getting more control INTO the Preview Window. Who knows what this will bring in the future . . . .

The latest release 261 seems to be a bit more stable. Release 216 would not autosave and would always crash on quitting the program. My plugins (pluraleyes 4.1 and Vasst Ultimate S Pro 4.x) seem to work okay, but I had to get the installer from Vasst from John Rofrano. Pluraleyes has a known 'fix' to get it to work in SVP15.

I am doing my heavy multicam editing (4+ hour, 3 track projects) in SVP13 using 50p 50 mbps MP4 and 50p 25 mbps m2ts files and then importing them into SVP15 to see how it behaves. So far so good... .

My system specs: Intel i7 7700k 4.20 GHz, GTX570, 16GB RAM, Gigabye Z170 HD3, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 10 x64 Pro, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Most of my projects are 3-10 video tracks and anther 10-16 tracks of audio. Are you saying MVP15 isn't as friendly with larger track counts, or you load stuff into SVP13 and then open in 15?

Thanks for your help!

I just bought the upgrade Tuesday, but haven't had time to load it all and work yet, too much time out of the office working this week!

No. I was just trialling it to see how it would behave with projects created in V13 and opened in V15. Previously 216 was unstable and would not autosave. Both seem to have improved. I am still working in V13 as I need to use the Vegasaur Video4YouTube plugin.
