How do I color grade/correct like premiere?
on Jun 5, 2017 at 6:59:09 pm

I'm still trying to figure out if Vegas is a pro product or not.

In premiere, I like adjusting exposure, temperature, highlights, shadows, contrast, whites, blacks, and saturation--all with the same tool. How can I accomplish this with Vegas Pro?

Thanks!

I would use the Color Corrector along with Levels. That should get you the control that you need.

Thank you, I'll play around a bit with those.

And you've always got Colour Curves available as well.

+1

Oh yea, I was on my iPad Pro when I answered and was going from memory but my memory ain't what it use to be. ☹ Color Curves is a must.

My favorite toolchain is:

Levels --> Color Corrector --> Color Curves

In that specific order. Set your white and black points correct with Levels, do any color adjustments with Color Corrector and then add some styling by slightly crushing the blacks and whites with a nice "S" curve in Color Curves. It's the Holy Trinity of color grading in Vegas Pro.

My order:
1) White Balance sometimes
2) Color Curves to adjust the black/whites/exposure while looking at the luminance histogram.
3) Color Corrector for most everything else.
4) Sometimes Secondary Color Corrector for a specific feature
5) Unsharp to add light sharpening

Should I use Color Corrector before Color Curves?

If you are using Color Curves to set the black and white point then no, it should be before Color Corrector. I use Levels to set my black and white point before Color Corrector and then use Color Curves to tweak the final look which is why I add it after Color Corrector.
