Unwanted crop/zoom

Hello,

I'm going crazy because I have a video (and only one) on my timeline that is cropped but I didn't do it !

I've tried many menu, re-import it many times, on different video lines, but only this one is cropped on this video line.

Here is a screen as you can see, it's cropped (on the left) but crop menu is clean on the right :

Informations : footages are in 4K, project is 21:9 1080p.

Here in 21:9... cropped but not wanted. I hope it's clear.

Track move (mouvement de piste) is clean too :

Thank you for your help.

Why do you need 21:9 aspect ratio for 1080 ? .. Wouldn't you want 16:9 for 1080?
Your 4K media seems to be 16:9 ?

Hi Stephen,

So you have a 16:9 footage in a 21:9 project.
A 16:9 picture does not fill up 21:9 canvas, as you see on your first image.
You need to make it 21:9, for this the best way (I think) is cropping it to 21:9. That will fill the 21:9 canvas. ☺
This is how it looks on the second image.
So what's the problem?

Best regards

László Kovács

The problem is that, as you can see it on the images, I don't have the full image that I should have (on the right) but a cropped (zoomed) part (on the left).

Sorry, I didn't look it close enough. I see now.
You say you tried to reimport this video many times.
Did you completely remove this clip from the project also, or just deleted from the timeline?
If you just deleted from the timeline, try to remove it from the project as well.
(On "Project media" look for the video, select it then "delete" or right click it, then select "Remove from project" from the menu there).
And then try to add it to the project again.
Not sure if this will help, but who knows?

Best regards

Right click on the crop box and select "Match Output Aspect"?

Reading through the thread again I'm wondering if you are not expecting the impossible.

Your incoming image is 16:9. Your outgoing image is to be 21:9. They are different shapes. So as László commented either you show your full 16:9 image uncropped with black bars at the sides or you crop the 16:9 image at the top and bottom so it is the same shape as 21:9 and fills the area.

Alternatively stretch out the 16:9 image to 21:9 so the entire image is included, it fills the screen, but it is distorted.

Unless I'm missing something, with say C4K on the timeline, I'd select Pan/Crop, unlock aspect ratio, leave width at 4096, change height to 1757.94, then save this preset as My 21-9. Then use it on all C4K events.

The presets for 16-9 and Academy etc are already there. Perhaps you already know this?

Hello Eric,
My videos are in 3840*2160, and my project is 3840x1646, so it's just a cut in Y axe, no crop/zoom.

Here are some images to explain :

1. is what I have (zoomed image)

2. is what I should have : 3840x1646 from 3840x2160 image

I still don't know why but I notice that it occurs only with GOPRO footages... Not with RX100 ones.

Maybe that file is corrupt in a way?
What happens if you add that file to a brand new empty project?
I also would try to repack/remux it without reencoding:
ffmpeg -i that-file.mp4 -vcodec: copy -acodec: copy output.mp4
(or even to different container, say .mov)
See if that helps?

Hello !

Tha's what I did few days ago, vegas lossless (or close) conversion then it was ok.

And my last sequence was weird because on the same footage that I have cut (S) in the middle, first part was cropped and the 2nd, not !!! (same track of course)

So I deleted the first cut-part, recut the 2nd and find my start scene back.. and it was ok... even after aply 21/9 format...

Strange...

Here is one file :

Thank you because I'm curious.

Just thinking:
is that the last file from that cam? Is there a chance, that the cam was shut down abnormally?
(I think something like switching off before stopping REC, or run out of battery?)
I'm downloading your sample anyway...

I tested your clip and I don't see the problem.

Your clip 3840x2160 (16:9)
Your project 3840x1646 (21:9)
You will get pillarboxes or cropped image (if you match output aspect in pan/crop window)

Everything works as it should.

The same here...
Just weanted to drop the reply, but Aleksey was quicker.
I started a new empty project, with 2560*1080 (as it was mentioned befofore as target res.) @25P resolution.
For me it works as expected. Minor difference, that the crop for me is correct at 3840*1620, not 3840*1646.

I don't see the weird behavior.
I'm on Windows 7 home 64 bit / Vegas 14 pro build 252.

Best regards

László Kovács

OKay.. so it's still unexplained ^^

Thank you all for your help, it should be a local (Vegas or Windows) issue.

cu :)
