Hello,

I've been on Vegas since Vegas 4.0 I believe. I'm on Vegas 12 Pro now. I bought a Panasonic DVX200 recently & have been using it without any problems. Last night I filmed a client where I used a new setting on my DVX200, & Vegas does not recognize the file now. I have done everything I can think of & now I'm here in hopes someone will be able to help me figure this out.

The file I recorded is a UHD file. AN MP4, 3840/2160 150 MB per second at 59.94p FPS. My players like windows media & VLC play it, but not smoothly ? Anyway I need to edit this project starting today, so I just need Vegas to see it. Can anyone help me ? Thank you very much!!!!

Sincerely,

Shawn.

Can you upload a start stop, or post the "media info"( its an application) on the file format?

VP12 should be able to play the format back. You may need to edit the project via HD proxies, then render the final 4K project using the camera masters. System hardware levels makes a huge difference beyond HD resolutions.

You can always try the trial of VP14 and see if it works better for you.

Looking at the camera specs:

Recording Mode Recording Format Bit Rate

MOV/MP4 UHD 3840x2160/59.94p 150 Mbps

For Vegas, make sure you are recording in MP4 mode and not MOV. Other than that the recording codec is just AVCHD high profile with Linear PCM audio, which is what Sony calls XAVC. Sony records to MFX file format however, so you may need to try FFMPEG and re-wrap the video into the MXF container.

Hello Aaron,

[Aaron Star] "however, so you may need to try FFMPEG and re-wrap the video into the MXF container."

The file is an mp4. I have never really worked outside of Vegas before, so I don't understand this process either, guess I'm a dummy LOL.

I'll probably just have to upgrade ?

Thanks for responding!

Shawn.

Hello Aaron,

Thank you for responding. I don't know how to do what you are asking ? Sorry. Vegas simply cannot see the file. The file is a MP4 at 150 MB per second. Vegas 14 did seem to work I just downloaded & installed the trial version. Wasn't planning on purchasing now at this time however I may have not other choice ?

Shawn.

Did you say Vegas 14 handled the file well?

Hello Steve,

Sorry I just saw you had asked me a question. Yes 14 opened up the file & handled it alright. I have only been working with the trial version for the past 7 days. Been reading about 14 here in the forum to see how it is working for everyone.

Does this surprise you that 14 saw the file alright ? I never did get it to open in 12.

My desktop is probably 4 -5 years old now.

Shawn.

I would just hit the easy button and upgrade if VP14 plays the file well. 4-5 years ago the 4k formats were still being worked of as far as consumer gear goes. It is possible that the format is AVC-Ultra (Panasonic's version of AVC) in an MP4 container. VP12 may never play that type with out converting the media to another format.
