Scoring video + MIDI sequencing + audio mixing in Vegas 13 Producer ??
on Oct 24, 2016 at 12:32:56 pm

Scoring editing..
So far I always used Sony Vegas to edit and render
all my video projects with success.
I've been doing the same for the audio projects
using Sonar X3 Producer as a dedicated MIDI sequencer
and audio tracks mix for all my audio editing.
Now the problem I face is that I just rendered a video
clip with no sound and I want to add audio to it
--> including MIDI sequences using VST instruments.
It looks like neather Vegas nor Sonar could do that job..
I know Sonar can import a video clip on one of its track
but there is no 'preview window' for that video to be used
when scoring so it's useless..
And Vegas 13 producer does not support VST MIDI sequencing (does-it?)
Is there a solution using Vegas 13 producer to do that job ?
Any settings I'm missing that would solve my problem ?
Or another simple app to be used.. ?

How about Sonar's video view and the thumbnails in the video track?

(from the Sonar manual) Open the Video view by using the Views > Video command or by pressing ALT+SHIFT+2. In addition to the Video
view, there is also a Video Thumbnails pane in the Track view

Sonar has limited video render capabilities, but you can build a score, export it, bring it back to vegas, then render it.

You are right about Sonar X3.
I'll explore that avenue..

Thanks !

I finally got around to experimenting with using Sonar to make a music score for a video. This thread got me intrigued.
I tried sonar 7 but found many limitations, like it only imports AVIs and it's very sluggish and has sync problems with its own audio. Barely or not usable IMHO. Then I tried Sonar X3 and was very happy with my results. It imported a 1080 60p mp4 and played it back perfectly in a floating video view, that also allows us to see the console from that same floating window and mute the audio for the video I imported. I could not see the waveform for it to use to sync though. X3 lets us export as video with some different audio and video parameters but not nearly the options Vegas does.
Sony used to have an audio midi sequencer program I experimented with years ago called Acid. It worked very similar to Sonar but lacked the quality audio effects like the Sonitus effects or virtual instruments like TTS1.
It sure would be nice if Magix added midi sequencing and a decent chromakeyer. I would never need to use another program to make a high quality music video. It would need some serious CPU power to handle all that. Maybe one day,,,,
