Sony Vegas watermark disappears (the usual Pan & Crop problem)
on Oct 23, 2016 at 3:46:42 pm

Hi all,

I seem to have a Sony Vegas Pan & Crop related problem. I have a Vegas Pro 10.0. I know this topic has been raised before but still I could not find a proper answer to my particular problem.

So I have a video, originally imported in a 1920x1080 format, about to render it into a youtube-compatible 1280x720.

Now what I want to do is, I want to include a watermark logo into the video file. This is a 2000x248 format logo. What I've done so far is, I have imported the watermark, reduced its size using Event Pan&Crop function. So far ok.

Now I'd like to move this reduced size watermark onto the top right corner of the video but I simply cannot make this work. After a certain point, the image cuts off and disappears.

I have literally read hundreds of threads and tried everything:
(1) Click on Event Pan&Crop, Restore, Match output aspect
(2) Click on Event Pan&Crop, change watermark aspect ratio to 16:9 wide screen
(3) Unchecked "Automatically crop still images added to timeline" in Preferences
(4) Unchecked "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" in Media Properties

Nothing, none of these solutions helped me so far. Maybe the problem is the original size of my watermark (2000x248)? Maybe I should change this size? Would this solve my problem? What do you think?

I would appreciate any ideas you might have regarding this topic.

Thanks, regards

Scale the image with Pan&Crop, but then use Track Motion to position it exactly where you want it. I just had a similar issue last night and this is how I solved it.

Another option is to import the logo into a image editor, like Photoshop, and scale/place it on a canvas of 1280x720. Save as a PNG with transparency.

Hi,

after you have it shown in the right size, move it with track motion instead of pan/crop.
Way much easier ?
Second option is, that you use track motion for both resizing and moving. I'd do this way.

Cheers ;)

I could swear when I started to reply, there was no response at all present...
Now I see Mark was quicker 2 hours. Someone has a time machine? ;)

Oh my God László, you cannot imagine how happy I am right now! Thank you so much! I had no idea there is this additional option called Track Motion, it truly works and it is so easy!

Your very welcome ?
Also note, Mark gave basically a very similar suggestion.
Anyway, nice to see here someone else from Hungary.
I felt so alone... :)))

Dear Mark and Laszlo,

Thank you so much to both of you for the very quick answers, you just made my day!

@ Laszlo, small world, ain't it? ? Anyway, it is nice to have Sony Vegas experts also from Hungary, too. Now I know where to turn if I bump into a challenging editing issue next time. ?

Have a nice evening, best regards,
Laszlo Bodnar
