Vegas issues?
on Aug 27, 2016 at 10:06:42 pm

Where to start... My wife uses an HP Pavilion desktop (8 gigs RAM). I use an HP Pavilion laptop, also 8 gigs RAM. We've been using Vegas 11 for a number of years. Until the problems started... And let me add we upgraded to vegas 13 thinking 11 had become corrupted somehow. The problems still exist.

Laptop - Vegas 11 worked great until I went to render a veg file. Doesn't seem to matter what resolution I use. The cpu ramps up to high speed (85%-95%) the fan goes crazy and the whole computer shuts down. This is not a long video, maybe 2 minutes. I had the laptop "cleaned " of malware and such but the problem still exists with 13. What I was doing was transferring the veg file to my wife's computer via usb because her vegas worked fine...until now.

Desktop - Vegas 11 worked fine, until it didn't. It wouldn't even start. I got this error and still do with 13.

Problem Description
Application Name: VEGAS Pro
Application Version: Version 13.0 (Build 543) 64-bit
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000096)
Fault Module: C:\Windows\system32\amdocl64.dll
Fault Address: 0x000007FEBF109D50
Fault Offset: 0x00000000023D9D50

Any ideas?

Todd, two items I'm noting:

1] You've downloaded and installed the MAGIX VP Build 543. I've read that this BUILD is purely the re-branding build taking VP from Sony to MAGIX. Did you purchase this Build 543? MAGIX had a deal going on offering to previous owners to upgrade to VP 13 with the opportunity to get VP14 for when available?

2] The Fault Module appears to be amdocl64.dll. That's the AMD graphics driver.

Now, I understand you've UPGRADED from VP11 to VP13. Are you sure VP13 supports GPU acceleration for that graphics card? If you have GPU acceleration turned ON, turn it OFF.

I'd try to uninstall VP13 and get back to VP11. But that's your decision. Understand any VP13 project would most likely NOT open again in VP11.

I do hope that some of this helps.

1. Yes, I purchased build 543.

2. Does that fault mean the graphics driver has gone bad?

Yes I upgraded from 11 but this issue started when I had 11.

Any ideas on the laptop?

Does this happen with every video format (mov, avi, mp4 etc) you drop on the Vegas timeline and try to render?
I am asking this as to ascertain if its a particular file type you have on the timeline that is causing this issue, to
narrow things down.

It doesn't seem to matter what the file type is.

Laptop: "... cpu ramps up ... fan goes crazy ... computer shuts down ..." Maybe overheating?

I encountered this issue on a laptop years ago. Turns out the CPU cooling policy under the advanced power management settings was set to passive. I set it to active. The fan now stays on, the laptop no longer shuts down unexpectedly, but it does mean that battery life is shortened considerably.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, GTX570, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

That's what I would guess. What is the remedy? Chunk it out the window? The laptop only shuts down when rendering in Vegas.

Rough ideas:
--see if fan or internal airway is dusty/clogged
--see if clock speed or maximum processor state can be reduced (slower but more stable)
