[Graham Bernard] "Yah got iTunes? Stick through that and convert to MP4."
I'm not sure if iTunes will convert to MP4 directly but Graham on the right track...
[Morgan Grimshaw] "How can i open M4A files?"
If they contain Digital Rights Management (DRM) you can't open them in Vegas Pro because it doesn't support DRM. Early iTunes music all had DRM. Now you can buy iTunes music without it.

If you need a non-DRM version, and the files are from iTunes and you are the owner, you can open the music in iTunes and ask iTunes to burn them to CD. Then you can import from the CD using Vegas Pro. Maybe there is a more direct way as Graham suggests but this has worked for me win the past.

If you do not have iTunes and you are not the owner, then you are out of luck.

BTW, this is one of the reasons I love my Mac. I can open any of my iTunes music in Final Cut Pro X without any problems. There is a beautiful simplicity in a system where everything just works together. ;-)

John, you're correct. My mistake. Our chum asked for MP3 not MP4. I saw this page where this conversion is done through iTunes : http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-convert-m4a-files-to-mp3-form...
