Vegas 13 FX mask
on Aug 5, 2016 at 11:58:15 am

Hi,
One interesting new feature of Vegas 13 is that It's possible to mask effects.
However I did not found the way to apply an effect to the whole image, and mask another effect.
(I may overlook something)

To make it clear: I almost always have to tweak the image in color/contrast, etc, usually color curves, sometimes color corrector.
(Colormatch looks promising, as well :))
So let's say, I need a color curve for the whole image, and a blur for a portion of it. Is that possible with only one clip/track using masking effects?
Otherwise I have to do it the old way using 2 tracks and masking the top one...
Thanks ...

Applying a Mask to the FX is All or nothing. You cannot just have it apply to some FX and not the others in the chain. This is unfortunate I agree.

Put in another kf select the fxs you want then apply another with the fxs you want or not want. Won't that work?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. What is a "kf"?

For what I want to achieve in the above example, I need the clip on 2 tracks. The topmost has all the effects, the below one only the effect(s) I need to apply to the whole image. Then I crop/mask the topmost clip, so that only a portion of it is visible, on which I need the "masked effect".
I used to do this technique many times with Vegas 10.
Now I'm just exploring my new Vegas 13, and at a first glance, this effect masking thing looked promising for tasks like this, and there would no need to double the clip.
But seems I was wrong, it does not work this way :)

Kind regards

[Graham Bernard] "KF = Key Frame"

Oh, I see. So I understand what you mean.
And no, keyframes are for changing some parameters in time.
This is something different.

Kind regards.
