Vegas Pro - AVI with Lagarith Lossless Codec will not smart render

I have a clip with lagarith lossless codec in an avi container that will not smart render, even though it looks like it should.
This is an image of the raw clip (left) and the rendered clip (right):

If I add the rendered clip into vegas and try to render it out again, it will smart render. The only difference I can see between the raw clip and the rendered clip is the colour depth, 32 (left) and 24 (right). If this would prevent it from smart rendering, is there any way to change the colour depth on render in vegas?

You are correct. 32bit and 24bit color depth are very different which is why Vegas Pro cannot smart render the clip. Why are you recording in 32-bit. That's overkill unless you are trying to preserve transparency somehow you are just wasting bits and drive space.

If you want Vegas Pro to render 32-bit you need to open the Configuration window on Lagarith and change the video properties from RGB to RGBA. That will create a 32-bit render.

Interesting. This seems to be a problem with my recording software, DxTory. In DxTory, under the Lagarith Lossless Codec configuration, I have set it to RGB and not RGBA, and still it produces a clip that has 32bit colour depth. I doubt that anyone here are familiar with DxTory, so I guess I have to look somewhere else to solve this problem. Alternativly, I guess I could use RGBA in Vegas.

After further testing it seems like it still might be a problem with Vegas, after all. When I look up the codec information of my raw clips in VLC, it says the decoded format is 24bit RGB, which it should be since the Lagarith Lossless Codec configuration was set to RGB and not RGBA when I recorded the clip.
Could this be a problem with Vegas and how it treats Lagarith Lossless Codec, as it seems like it displays the wrong colour depth of such clips under properties? Maybe Vegas somehow converted the raw lagarith clip from 24bit to 32bit colour depth when it was added?

Yup. Could just be a bug where Vegas Pro thinks it's RGBA when it's not.

If you're looking for a codec that will smart-render in Vegas, you might try UT Video or Magic YUV. My preference is Magic YUV since it decodes nicely for decent playback.
