How to keyframe text?
on Jan 31, 2016 at 12:00:38 am

In Final Cut Pro, I could keyframe text and move it around to my will.
I want text to move along (on top) of my characters which move, so I want to move my text every second or so because the character moves a lot. How do I do it? I tried keyframing, but I don't know when the text is supposed to move; is there an option to move the text along the video playing?

[Joe Scrubagger] "In Final Cut Pro, I could keyframe text and move it around to my will."
You can manually keyframe the position of the text by pressing the Automation button next to the Position parameter. Are you not seeing how to do this?

What you really want is Motion Tracking which Vegas Pro doesn't have built-in but Boris Continuum Complete has a Motion Tracker that plugs into Vegas Pro. Here is a tutorial on how to do it buy you must purchase BCC separately.

If you were using Fincal Cut Pro X you could motion track with Apple Motion or a plug-in like Track X from CoreMelt.

I tried that, but it only shows a black screen; my text is hidden. When I move my video track to the top, my text disappears.

Like this:

See how the text follows the characters? I want to do mine like that.

You should be adding a Sony Tiles & Text event on a Track above your video. You should now be able to see both the text and the video in the Video Preview. Next press the Animate button next to Location and the Media Timeline will appear. Make sure that the Sync Cursor to Media Timeline button is enabled.

Finally, move your text on the view preview to the first position, advance the timeline one frame, move the text to the next position, advance the timeline one frame, move the text to the next position, etc. You should see keyframes being generated on the Media Timeline and your text will now move with your video.

THANK YOU. That Sync button was what I needed.
