Scrolling text question
on Dec 22, 2015 at 1:01:11 pm

Hi all,

I'd like to have a scrolling text line along the bottom of the screen, kind of like what they have in commercials. The preset 'scroll left' works sort of, but it's way too fast. If I adjust to 1%, it's about right which pretty much tells me that it's either not the right tool or I'm not using it correctly. Also, the pause until the text comes again is not adjustable, as far as I can see. I'd basically like it to start over again once the text has finished. Making multiple copies of the clip would be fine also.

Thanks,
Stefan

Oh so I managed to overlook the preset 'scrolling text' - but this does the same thing. Why the default speed is so fast that it's impossible to read is anyone's guess. And this one even scrolls in the wrong direction.

Puzzled,

Legacy Text option in the Media Generators tab.

Scrolling text
Modify the values to scroll left.

[Stefan Schramm] "The preset 'scroll left' works sort of, but it's way too fast."
The speed of the scroll is directly related to the Duration of the event. make the duration longer and the text will scroll slower. Try something around 2 minutes in duration instead of the default 5 seconds. BTW, I'm not talking about extending the event on the timeline... I talking about changing the Duration parameter in the FX Window.

Both the Legacy Text and new Titles & Text work the same way,

John: Thanks so much for your input. I didn't know what that duration box does. A while back I've tried adjusting clip durations *in the timeline* numerically with this and nothing happened, so I ignored this box completely. Now you answered two questions instead of one :)

Jorma: Thanks for pointing out the legacy text option. It's quite strange they would omit the scrolling direction in the modern version. Anyway, that's another problem fixed!

Thanks to all and happy new year!

[Stefan Schramm] "A while back I've tried adjusting clip durations *in the timeline* numerically with this and nothing happened, so I ignored this box completely."
What actually happened was the generated media duration changed but the event on the timeline doesn't because the event length and the media duration are separate. What you need to do is extend the event on the timeline to match the new duration of the media if that was your intent.

To see how this works, drop a generate media onto the timeline. It's duration and event length should default to 5 seconds (unless you changed this in the preferences). Now drag the event on the timeline out to 15 seconds. You should see two divots in the top of the event showing that it is looping 3 times. Next open the generate media settings and change the Duration to 15 seconds. The two divots on event on the timeline will disappear indicating that it is no longer looping because both the media and the event are 15 seconds. This is critical to understand for any generated media with animation.
